Data Science Consultant

Location: Manchester

A leading Defense and Security organization is expanding its technology and transformation teams and is looking for a Data Science & AI Consultant to work on complex, mission-focused programmes.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on data science, machine learning or AI professional to work on projects where advanced technology can support better decision-making and improved operational outcomes.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, applying data science and AI techniques to real-world client challenges.

The role offers variety across the full project lifecycle. This could include exploring data, researching new approaches, developing prototypes, building AI-enabled solutions, evaluating models and supporting the transition of solutions into operational use.

There is also scope to work with emerging technologies including Generative AI and Agentic AI, as well as contributing to client strategy and the development of future opportunities.

• Apply data science, machine learning and AI techniques to complex client challenges

• Explore data and develop models, prototypes and AI-enabled solutions

• Support the development and evaluation of solutions through to deployment and operational use

• Investigate and apply emerging technologies such as Generative AI and Agentic AI

• Produce clear technical analysis, reports and presentations

• Work alongside engineers, analysts, delivery specialists and client stakeholders

• Help clients understand the opportunities, limitations and risks associated with AI

• Contribute to new propositions, bids and future client opportunities

• Support knowledge sharing, mentoring and development within the wider team

We are looking for someone with practical experience in Data Science, Machine Learning or AI, gained within Defense, Security, the public sector, industry or academia.

You should have hands-on experience using Python or equivalent tools and a solid understanding of areas such as statistical modelling, supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, transformers, Generative AI or Agentic AI.

Experience across areas such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Hugging Face, cloud platforms, MLOps, computer vision, NLP, geospatial data or multimodal AI would also be of interest, although candidates are not expected to have experience across every area.

Alongside the technical skills, strong communication is important. You will need to be comfortable explaining complex technical concepts to different audiences and working collaboratively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
