Director, Application Development Services

Swoon is actively hiring a Director of Application Development to join the team!
What your day-to-day will look like

• Lead, coach, and develop a small, growing team of application developers, creating an environment of trust, accountability, and collaboration.
• Oversee the design, development, enhancement, and support of business critical applications, integrations, and automation solutions.
• Partner with developers on application architecture and solution design, helping the team evaluate technical options and make sound decisions.
• Prioritize work across production issues, operational requests, and strategic projects based on business impact, urgency, and team capacity.
• Build strong relationships with business stakeholders, clarify their needs, negotiate realistic timelines, and communicate delivery priorities.
• Use Jira to plan and track development work, manage Scrum or Kanban boards, and provide visibility into capacity, progress, and risks.
• Coordinate the response to major application issues, including member impacting incidents that require attention outside normal business hours.
• Guide delivery of initiatives such as a website redesign, new digital applications, system modernization, and changes to banking products.
• Manage team workloads and resource needs as the application development group grows, while supporting each developer's professional development.
• Promote secure, maintainable development practices and ensure solutions meet business needs in a regulated financial services environment.

What's Required / Technical Skills

• Software development foundation: Prior hands-on experience developing applications, followed by progression into technical leadership.
• People leadership: Experience managing, coaching, and developing software developers while delegating effectively.
• Technical solution design: Ability to discuss application architecture, integrations, APIs, and design options with a development team.
• Application delivery management: Experience guiding development work from requirements through testing, deployment, and production support.
• Jira and Agile work planning: Hands-on ability to manage Scrum or Kanban boards, prioritize work, and track team capacity. Comparable experience with Azure DevOps or Rally could be considered.
• Stakeholder management: Ability to balance competing business requests, negotiate timelines, and communicate clearly about priorities and constraints.
• Technical familiarity with C#/.NET and SQL: Enough experience to guide discussions and evaluate solutions; current hands-on coding is not required.
