Job Description

This role focuses on defining a coherent, end-to-end architecture for technology controls across the bank. You will assess the current landscape of technology controls, design a modern and engineering-aligned target architecture, and develop a practical roadmap to transition from the current state to the desired future state. The position requires close collaboration with technology, governance and control stakeholders to ensure that solutions are joined up, achievable and aligned with modern software development practices.

Responsibilities

• Assess the current-state architecture of technology controls across teams, systems and platforms, identifying fragmentation, overlaps and gaps.
• Define a comprehensive target-state architecture for technology controls that is joined up, coherent and aligned with modern engineering practices and the software development life cycle.
• Design a practical and achievable strategic roadmap to transition from the current technology control landscape to the future-state architecture.
• Develop rationalisation recommendations, including identification of systems for decommissioning, opportunities for consolidation and prioritised areas for investment.
• Ensure that proposed architectures and roadmaps are actionable and delivery-focused, rather than purely conceptual.
• Collaborate with engineering, governance and control stakeholders to align technology controls with modern development and operational practices.
• Facilitate organisational discussions to clarify long-term ownership, accountability and governance for technology controls.
• Communicate architectural options, trade-offs and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Support the implementation of the strategic roadmap by providing architectural guidance and oversight where required.

Essential Skills

• Strong enterprise architecture background with experience designing end-to-end technology solutions.
• Deep understanding of modern engineering practices and the software development life cycle (SDLC).
• Proven experience in technology controls and governance within complex organisations.
• Ability to create actionable, delivery-focused roadmaps rather than purely conceptual architectures.
• Pragmatic mindset with a strong focus on delivery and practical outcomes.
• Strong communication and facilitation skills to engage stakeholders and drive consensus on architecture and governance.
• experience in assessing current-state architectures and defining coherent target-state architectures.

2 to 3 days a week in office in Sheffield and the rest of the working week remote.
