The opportunity

We're recruiting a Trainee Field Service Engineer for a specialist medical imaging organisation supporting customers across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically, electronically or mechanically trained engineer looking to develop a long-term career in field service engineering. You'll work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience with ultrasound imaging systems, with a clear pathway to progress into more advanced technologies including X-ray.

Based from home and working across a regional territory, you'll initially shadow experienced engineers before gradually taking ownership of your own workload, customer visits and service activities.

Full training and mentoring will be provided, making this a great opportunity for a junior engineer or graduate looking to move into a customer-facing field service position.

What you'll be doing

  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of ultrasound equipment.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
  • Diagnose faults and support equipment repairs.
  • Provide on-site technical support to customers.
  • Carry out QA and commissioning activities.
  • Shadow experienced Field Service Engineers and develop your technical knowledge.
  • Complete service documentation and reports.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with customers.
  • Manage your own diary and travel schedule as your experience develops.
  • Progress towards supporting more complex medical imaging technologies, including X-ray.

Equipment you'll work with

  • Ultrasound scanning systems
  • Medical imaging equipment
  • Electrical and electronic components
  • Diagnostic and testing equipment
  • Future exposure to X-ray technology as you progress

What we're looking for

We're looking to speak with technically minded engineers who are keen to develop a career in field service and enjoy working directly with customers.

  • HNC minimum in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering.
  • HND or degree desirable.
  • Junior engineers, graduates and candidates looking to move into field service are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong practical and hands-on engineering ability.
  • Good fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, organised and able to manage your own time.
  • Friendly, personable and confident when dealing with customers.
  • Positive attitude with a genuine willingness to learn.
  • Comfortable working independently once fully trained.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ideally based around Daventry / NN, although Milton Keynes, South/East Coventry and Loughborough will also be considered.
  • Willingness to travel regionally, with approximately 1–2 overnight stays per month on average.

  • £30,000 basic salary
  • Company car or £6,000 car allowance
  • Annual performance-related bonus based on company performance
  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner allowance when travelling

  • Comprehensive on-the-job training and mentoring
  • Clear progression to Field Service Engineer within approximately 12 months
  • Potential to reach £40,000–£45,000+ within 3 years
