IBM i (AS/400) Administrator L3

Contract type: Remote
Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced IBM i (AS/400) Administrator L3 to administer, secure, troubleshoot, and optimize IBM i environments running on IBM Power Systems. The role will support production, development, and DR environments while ensuring system availability, performance, and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, and administer IBM i (AS/400) operating systems.
- Perform OS upgrades, Technology Refreshes (TRs), PTFs, and routine system maintenance.
- Manage IBM Power Systems, PowerVM, LPARs, and HMC environments.
- Manage user profiles, group profiles, authorities, security policies, and auditing.
- Configure and maintain BRMS for backup, recovery, and disaster recovery.
- Monitor CPU, memory, disk, jobs, system health, and overall performance.
- Troubleshoot production issues using job logs, message queues, and system logs.
- Provide L2/L3 support and participate in major incident resolution.
- Support HA/DR technologies including PowerHA, MIMIX, or iCluster.
- Support SAN, storage, replication, and other infrastructure technologies.
- Develop CL programs, schedule batch jobs, and automate administrative tasks.
- Work with application, network, storage, and infrastructure teams on complex issues.
- Support IBM i migrations, upgrades, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- Mentor L1/L2 administrators and provide technical guidance during critical incidents.
Required Skills
- 6+ years of hands-on IBM i / AS400 Administration experience.
- Strong knowledge of IBM Power Systems, PowerVM, LPAR, and HMC.
- Hands-on experience with BRMS, Backup & Recovery, and DR.
- Strong experience with CL Programming and batch job scheduling.
- Knowledge of Db2 for i and TCP/IP networking.
- Experience with IBM i security, user administration, and auditing.
- Strong troubleshooting and performance monitoring/tuning experience.
- Experience with PowerHA, MIMIX, or iCluster.
- Ability to lead major incidents, upgrades, migrations, and complex troubleshooting.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to mentor L1/L2 administrators.
