Senior Software Engineer
Location: West Des Moines, Iowa (Partial Remote)
Role Overview
This organization is seeking a Senior Software Engineer with a strong automation mindset to join the engineering team. This position is designed for a software engineer who naturally identifies manual, repetitive processes and designs software solutions to eliminate them. Initially, the role involves partnering with the existing engineering team to hands-on functional and exploratory testing, transitioning regression suites to automated frameworks. The long-term focus of this position entails driving business process automation by designing and building APIs, integrations, deterministic workflows, and modern software solutions.
Key Responsibilities

• Partner with engineering leadership to design and establish robust automation architectures.
• Develop and maintain production-grade software using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Build and integrate REST APIs, managing complex data flows and integrations.
• Perform hands-on functional and exploratory testing to thoroughly understand business operations during the initial phase.
• Collaborate with existing team members to automate a comprehensive regression testing suite.
• Transition from test automation to broader business process automation, including straight-through processing.
• Deploy and manage services within Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
• Evaluate and implement technical solutions, choosing appropriately between automated test frameworks, APIs, integrations, or workflow automations.

Required Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
Experience: Candidates must possess extensive experience in production software engineering, demonstrating a strong career progression that emphasizes core software development over pure script-writing or manual testing. Proven experience in automating processes and workflows is required.
Technical Skills: Proficiencies must include Node.js, TypeScript, REST APIs, and system integrations. Candidates must have a solid understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD environments. Experience with automation frameworks such as Playwright is highly valued.
Preferred Qualifications

• Practical experience developing and integrating AI-enabled solutions within production software.
• Demonstrated ability to influence development practices and mentor team members on automation best practices.
