The Opportunity

An established UK defence and advanced technology organisation is seeking a Manufacturing Test Engineer to join its electronics engineering team in Bolton. This is an excellent opportunity to work on complex, high-reliability electronic systems used in demanding applications, contributing to both new product development and ongoing production.

You will play a key role in identifying faults within circuit card assemblies, improving manufacturing performance and ensuring electronic products meet the required technical standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose faults on analogue and digital printed circuit boards down to component level.

  • Use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters and signal generators to investigate electronic failures.

  • Identify root causes, produce technical reports and support corrective actions to improve production yield.

  • Develop and maintain test specifications, work instructions and controlled engineering documentation.

  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Process and Design Engineering teams to resolve technical issues.

  • Provide test engineering expertise throughout product development and production readiness activities.

  • Record test results and support quality reporting through manufacturing and enterprise systems.

What We're Looking For
  • A relevant engineering degree, or an appropriate technical apprenticeship with an HNC or equivalent qualification.

  • Strong practical knowledge of electronics testing, measurement and fault diagnosis.

  • Experience troubleshooting electronic sub-assemblies and printed circuit boards.

  • Ability to interpret circuit schematics, engineering drawings and technical test documentation.

  • Hands-on experience with manual and automated test equipment.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing systems such as SAP, MES or PLM.

  • Experience in defence, aerospace or another high-reliability manufacturing environment would be beneficial.

  • Knowledge of RF circuitry would be an advantage but is not essential.

What's on Offer?
  • Salary of approximately £45,500, depending on experience.

  • Company performance-related bonus of up to £2,500.

  • Pension contributions of up to 14% combined employer and employee.

  • Opportunities for paid overtime.

  • Up to 15 additional days of flexible leave.

  • Enhanced parental leave benefits.

  • Free onsite parking and subsidised meals.

Eligibility: Applicants must be British nationals. Successful candidates will also be required to complete BPSS security checks after an offer is made.

If you're an electronics or manufacturing test engineer looking to apply your fault-finding expertise to complex defence technology, this could be an excellent next step in your career.
