Job description

Test Engineer

Mechanical/Electrical/Electromechanical

We are recruiting an experienced Test Engineer to join an innovative organisation delivering complex, technically advanced engineering programmes.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys practical testing, problem-solving and data analysis. You will work within a high-performing engineering team, supporting the verification, validation and continued development of sophisticated products and systems.

The role

As a Test Engineer, you will be responsible for executing structured test plans and ensuring that testing produces accurate, traceable and auditable results.

You will prepare and commission test stands, install test components, analyse performance data and lead investigations into technical issues. You will also contribute to the development of testing processes, equipment and engineering standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Executing verification, validation and development test plans
  • Preparing, commissioning and operating test stands and platforms
  • Installing test components and configuring test equipment
  • Reviewing, analysing and sense-checking test data
  • Producing detailed technical reports and presenting recommendations
  • Leading fault-finding, root-cause analysis and issue investigations
  • Supporting test scheduling, planning and the management of work packages
  • Contributing to test stand design and development
  • Developing work instructions and standard operating procedures
  • Producing risk assessments and supporting safe systems of work
  • Working with internal teams, customers and suppliers during system commissioning
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers

About you

We are looking for an experienced engineer with a strong technical foundation and a practical, delivery-focused approach.

You should have:

  • Minimum 2 years of post-graduate industrial engineering experience
  • A BEng, MEng, BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical or Electronic Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline
  • Experience within a testing, verification, validation or product development environment
  • The ability to interpret and summarise complex engineering data
  • Strong fault-finding and technical problem-solving skills
  • Experience performing basic thermodynamic calculations, including efficiency and heat-balance calculations
  • The ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and P&IDs
  • Experience planning and managing engineering work packages
  • Knowledge of engineering safety tools such as HAZID, HAZOP and FMEA
  • Strong technical report-writing and presentation skills
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work with limited supervision
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers

Why apply?

This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging engineering programmes within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

You will have the scope to take ownership of complex testing activities, influence the development of testing capability and act as a technical expert within your discipline.

If you are a hands-on Test Engineer who enjoys combining practical engineering, data-led analysis and technical leadership, we would be keen to hear from you.
