Cyber Security Engineer

We are looking for a Cyber Security Engineer to support and strengthen enterprise security operations in Houston, Texas. This contract opportunity is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented candidate who can protect network environments, improve security controls, and help maintain a stable and compliant infrastructure. The role focuses on firewall administration, security engineering, and configuration oversight across critical systems.

Responsibilities

Manage and enhance network security controls to safeguard systems, data, and connectivity across the environment. Administer and optimize Check Point and Cisco ASA firewall platforms, including rule reviews, updates, and performance tuning. Investigate security risks and implement corrective actions to reduce exposure and improve defensive posture. Maintain accurate configuration standards and documentation to support secure, consistent infrastructure management. Monitor firewall activity and security events to identify anomalies, respond to issues, and recommend improvements.

Partner with technical teams to design, test, and deploy security measures that align with operational needs and compliance expectations. Perform ongoing reviews of access controls and network segmentation to ensure appropriate protection for business systems. Requirements
Experience working in cyber security engineering or a closely related infrastructure security role. Hands-on knowledge of Check Point firewall administration and support. Practical experience with firewall technologies, including policy management, troubleshooting, and change implementation.

Background supporting Cisco ASA environments in an enterprise setting. Understanding of configuration management practices and the ability to maintain accurate technical documentation. Ability to assess security issues, prioritize remediation efforts, and communicate recommendations effectively.
