Provide State-wide Network services including but not limited to customer consultation, network design, level 2 and 3 support and implementation of new and existing services and infrastructure.

As a Senior Systems Officer of our Customer Network Services team, you will be responsible for operation, optimisation, and continuous improvement of a large multi-tenant enterprise network, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across complex environments. Working closely with Product Owners and Principal Engineers, it translates customer needs and operational insights into actionable backlogs, while embedding agile practices to enhance support processes and service delivery. The position drives proactive problem management, technical leadership, and automation-led efficiencies, while acting as a key escalation point for complex incidents and enabling consistent standards through documentation, mentoring, and best practice guidance.

In this role, you will:
  • Work collaboratively with Lead Support, Product Owners and Principal Engineers to understand product offerings, support processes, and operational requirements.
  • Participate in internal and customer meetings to refine requests, manage tickets, and support resolution of customer issues.
  • Analyse customer requests and translate them into actionable product backlog items, clearly communicating requirements to the Product Owner.
  • Promote and embed an agile mindset within the support function through daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Prepare and deliver reports on service performance, highlighting key metrics, trends, and technical issues impacting delivery.
  • Identify and drive improvements in Change and Event Management processes while ensuring compliance with organisational frameworks (e.g., NSW Health methodologies).
  • Perform proactive problem management, including root cause analysis and resolution of complex technical issues to maintain system performance and reliability.
  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex incidents across network, firewall, and Wi-Fi infrastructure, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
  • Manage BAU operations across network environments, including monitoring, troubleshooting, configuration, and maintaining high availability, security, and performance.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge sharing, while developing documentation, standards, and best practices to support consistent operations and team capability uplift.
About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Extensive experience working in a senior support or engineering role, able to refine support processes, and translate customer requirements into actionable product backlogs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve complex technical issues in a multi-vendor environment (including Cisco, HPE Aruba/Juniper, Fortinet, paloalto) including acting as an escalation point, leading collaboration with other ICT groups, performing proactive problem analysis, and maintaining high availability and performance across WAN, firewall, and Campus infrastructure environments.
  • Strong experience in developing reports, technical documentation, and best practice guidelines, with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical information to stakeholders and contribute to continuous improvement through change and event management processes.
  • Proven technical expertise with advanced knowledge across modern networking and infrastructure technologies (including MPLS, IS-IS, MP-BGP, Multicast, MACSec, IPSec/GRE, SD-WAN, VXLAN, EVPN, and monitoring tools such as SolarWinds and Splunk), combined with experience in automation (Python, Ansible, NSO).
  • Intermediate experience in firewalls, DNS, DHCP, load balancing,
  • Ability to collaborate and mentor team members to build capability across the organisation. Knowledge and working experience of Agile practices and methodologies.
