CNC Machinist
Quick Overview
Job Description
CNC Machinist (Lathe Focus) Direct Hire Location: Warren, MI Shift:
Day Shift | 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM Pay: $27.28/hour
Job Overview This is a direct-hire CNC Machinist position supporting a precision manufacturing operation in a retainer cell environment. The role is primarily focused on CNC lathe work producing repeat, tight-tolerance components. The environment emphasizes accuracy, consistency, and process control over high-mix or job-shop work.
This position is well suited for machinists who prefer structured, steady production, take ownership of their setups and inspections, and are comfortable maintaining tight tolerances throughout long production runs.
Core Responsibilities
• Set up and operate CNC lathes (HAAS primarily; some mills depending on cell)
• Perform full setups including tooling, offsets, and first-piece verification
• Adjust wear and geometry offsets to maintain tight tolerances during production
• Inspect in-process and finished parts using precision measuring tools
• Make minor program edits as needed (feeds, speeds, simple adjustments)
• Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
• Follow work instructions, standard operating procedures, and ISO requirements
• Maintain tooling, fixtures, and a clean, organized work area
• Participate in shift meetings and update production metrics as required • Complete all quality documentation accurately
Required Qualifications
• 3–5 years of CNC machining experience, with strong CNC lathe background
• Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T
• Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other precision measuring tools
• Experience performing tool changes, offset adjustments, and basic setup work
• CNC certification required unless candidate has 5+ years of hands-on CNC experience
• HAAS machine experience strongly preferred • Basic computer skills for entering data into ERP, VDM boards, and quality logs
Work Environment This role operates in a retainer cell environment where parts repeat frequently and tolerances are tight. The work is steady and predictable, with a strong emphasis on precision and quality rather than speed or high-volume output.
Ideal Candidate Profile • Lathe-focused machinist with strong setup and inspection ownership • Detail-oriented and consistent • Comfortable working independently while communicating effectively • Proactive in identifying and correcting quality issues • Prefers repeat production and process-driven environments
