Principal Instructional Designer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal / Guru Instructional Designer with 15+ years of experience in instructional design, learning strategy, curriculum architecture, learning experience design, and enterprise learning.

This is a senior-level role for an instructional design expert who can act as a subject-matter authority, strategic advisor, mentor, and thought leader across complex learning programs.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in designing large-scale learning solutions, influencing senior stakeholders, solving complex learning-design challenges, and establishing instructional design best practices.

Prior experience working with Microsoft products, projects, or technologies is mandatory/preferred based on client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a senior instructional design subject-matter authority and thought leader.
• Define learning strategies for complex enterprise learning programs.
• Provide strategic direction across large-scale instructional design initiatives.
• Architect comprehensive curricula and learning experiences.
• Solve complex instructional design and learning challenges.
• Establish instructional design methodologies, standards, and best practices.
• Provide expert guidance and mentoring to senior instructional designers and learning professionals.
• Review and provide expert-level feedback on complex learning solutions.
• Lead strategic discussions with clients, SMEs, and senior stakeholders.
• Translate business and organizational objectives into scalable learning strategies.
• Drive innovation through AI-enabled learning, emerging technologies, and modern instructional design practices.
• Guide teams in the use of advanced digital learning methodologies and technologies.
• Support executive-level presentations, consulting engagements, and client discussions.
• Identify opportunities to improve learning effectiveness, learner engagement, scalability, and quality.
• Influence learning strategy and design decisions across programs and teams.
• Provide thought leadership on emerging trends in instructional design and enterprise learning.

Required Skills & Experience

Instructional Design & Learning Strategy

• 15+ years of professional instructional design experience.
• Deep expertise in instructional design methodologies.
• Advanced knowledge of adult learning principles.
• Learning strategy and curriculum architecture.
• Learning Experience Design (LXD).
• Complex learning-solution design.
• Advanced assessment and evaluation design.
• Enterprise learning strategy and transformation.

Authoring & Creative Tools

• Advanced/expert experience with Articulate Storyline and/or Articulate Rise or equivalent authoring tools.
• Strong experience with Vyond or similar animation/video tools.
• Advanced experience applying AI tools to instructional design and learning-content development.
• Ability to evaluate and adopt emerging learning technologies.

Digital Learning & Technology

• Strong knowledge of enterprise LMS/LXP environments.
• Advanced understanding of SCORM and xAPI.
• Digital learning architecture.
• Multimedia and video-based learning.
• AI-enabled learning solutions.
• Emerging learning technologies and AI-driven learning workflows.
• Ability to advise teams on modern learning technology adoption.

Strategic Leadership

• Expert-level leadership and mentoring capability.
• Experience mentoring senior instructional designers and learning professionals.
• Ability to influence multiple teams and programs.
• Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to establish standards and best practices across instructional design teams.

Microsoft Experience

• Prior Microsoft experience is required/preferred.
• Experience working directly on Microsoft products, projects, technologies, learning programs, or enterprise initiatives is highly desirable.

Client & Executive Stakeholder Management

• Extensive experience engaging with senior clients and stakeholders.
• Strong consulting and advisory capabilities.
• Ability to influence strategic decisions.
• Experience presenting complex learning strategies to senior stakeholders.
• Excellent executive communication and relationship-management skills.

Communication Skills

• Exceptional written and verbal communication.
• Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
• Strong consulting and influencing skills.
• Ability to communicate complex learning concepts to executive and technical audiences.

Education

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Advanced qualification in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Education, Technology, Communications, or related disciplines is an advantage.

Domain Experience

• Extensive enterprise learning and corporate training experience strongly preferred.
• Experience working on large-scale enterprise learning programs is highly desirable.
