Quick Overview
Job Description
Jira Administrator, Atlassian Platform
Location: Pune, India (hybrid) | Team: Technology / Platform Engineering | Level: Mid-Level
OVERVIEW
APEXX is an independent, enterprise payment orchestration platform. Merchants connect to APEXX once and reach the world's payment ecosystem: acquirers, alternative payment methods (APMs), Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) providers and network tokenisation. Our routing engine (AIRE), cascading, Smart Split and Revenue Protect decide in milliseconds where each transaction should go to maximise acceptance and minimise cost. We don't own an acquirer, so our only incentive is the merchant's outcome.
We're backed by MMC, Forward Partners, Alliance VC & Finch Capital and growing with enterprise travel and eCommerce merchants including Jet2, TUI, Ryanair, CarTrawler and Hotelbeds.
We're looking for a Jira Administrator in Pune to own and evolve our Atlassian environment and help teams across APEXX work more effectively.
Jira sits at the centre of how our Engineering, Product, Customer Experience and operational teams plan, track and deliver work. You'll be responsible for making sure the platform remains well structured, secure, scalable and genuinely useful as the business grows.
This isn't just a ticket administration role. You'll work directly with teams to understand how they operate, design better workflows, automate repetitive processes, maintain integrations and establish sensible governance across our Atlassian estate.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Own our Jira environment end to end: administer projects, workflows, issue types, screens, fields, permissions, notification schemes, boards, filters and dashboards.
Design scalable workflows: work with Engineering, Product, Customer Experience and business teams to translate real operating processes into simple, effective Jira workflows without unnecessary complexity.
Build automation: use Jira Automation and integrations to remove repetitive administration, improve data quality and connect workflows across teams and systems.
Establish Jira governance: define standards for project creation, custom fields, workflows, permissions, naming conventions and configuration changes so the platform remains manageable as we scale.
Manage access and permissions: maintain users, groups, project roles and permission schemes, applying least-privilege principles and supporting joiner, mover and leaver processes.
Own integrations: configure and maintain integrations between Jira and tools across our technology stack, including GitLab, Slack, Confluence and other engineering and business systems.
Improve reporting and visibility: build dashboards, filters and reporting that give teams and leadership meaningful visibility into delivery, workload, service performance and operational trends.
Support Jira Service Management: help configure service projects, request types, queues, SLAs, forms, automation and knowledge workflows where required.
Maintain platform quality: identify duplicate or unused fields, workflows, projects and configurations, and continuously simplify and improve the environment.
Support compliance and audit requirements: maintain appropriate access controls, configuration records and audit trails to support our PCI DSS, SOC 2 and ISO 27001 environment.
Troubleshoot and support users: investigate configuration, workflow, permission and integration issues and provide clear guidance to teams.
Manage Atlassian applications and integrations: assess marketplace apps, configuration changes and new capabilities with appropriate consideration for security, privacy and maintainability.
Document how things work: maintain clear administration standards, configuration documentation, user guidance and runbooks.
Enable teams rather than creating dependency: train users, project administrators and team leads to get more from Jira while maintaining appropriate platform governance.
Work across the business with Engineering, Product, Customer Experience, Security and our UK colleagues to continuously improve how work moves through APEXX.
ABOUT YOU
Strong hands-on experience administering Jira in a production business environment, ideally supporting multiple teams and projects.
Good understanding of Jira administration including workflows, schemes, custom fields, screens, permissions, issue types, boards, filters and dashboards.
Experience designing Jira configurations that support Software Development, Agile/Scrum/Kanban or technology delivery teams.
Practical experience with Jira Automation, including building and troubleshooting rules across projects.
Strong understanding of permissions, roles and access control, with an appreciation for least-privilege and security-conscious administration.
Experience managing or supporting Jira Service Management (JSM), including request types, queues, SLAs and service workflows.
Comfortable working with Confluence and the wider Atlassian ecosystem.
Experience integrating Jira with engineering and collaboration tools such as GitLab, Slack & QA automation tooling.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills — you're comfortable investigating why a workflow, automation or integration isn't behaving as expected.
You understand the difference between configuring Jira and over-engineering Jira and favour simple, maintainable solutions wherever possible.
Clear written communication and documentation skills, with the ability to explain technical configuration to non-technical users.
Comfortable working independently, prioritising requests and balancing immediate user needs with the long-term health of the platform.
You use AI tools productively and critically to accelerate administration, documentation and problem-solving while validating outputs before implementing changes.
NICE TO HAVE
Atlassian certifications or equivalent demonstrable Jira administration expertise.
Experience administering Jira Cloud in a growing or enterprise organisation.
Experience with the Atlassian REST APIs, webhooks or scripting to automate administration and integrate Jira with other systems.
Familiarity with ScriptRunner or other commonly used Atlassian Marketplace applications.
Experience with Confluence administration, including permissions, spaces, templates and governance.
Experience administering Jira for Engineering, Product, ITSM or Customer Support organisations.
Familiarity with GitLab development workflows, CI/CD and software development lifecycle practices.
Understanding of SSO, SAML, SCIM and identity management, particularly within enterprise SaaS environments.
Experience working within PCI DSS, SOC 2, ISO 27001 or similarly controlled environments.
Experience in a scale-up, FinTech or payments business working across UK and global teams.
HOW WE HIRE
Three conversations:
a talent screen,
a conversation with the hiring manager, and
a practical Jira and workflow discussion.
The practical session will focus on how you approach real-world Jira administration — understanding a team's requirements, designing a maintainable solution, troubleshooting problems and explaining the trade-offs behind your decisions.
You're welcome to use your own AI tools during the process where appropriate — we're interested in how you think, verify and decide.
Once a decision is made, every candidate receives written feed-forward from the panel. Tell us about any adjustments you need and we'll make them.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Competitive compensation: that recognises your skills, experience and impact.
Generous time off: annual leave, public holidays and wellbeing-focused time away from work.
Work From Anywhere: up to 90 days a year from eligible locations, subject to our policy.
Comprehensive health insurance: for you and your loved ones.
Personal accident insurance: for when it's needed most.
Enhanced family leave: enhanced parental and family-friendly leave policies.
Learning & growth: opportunities to learn, grow and build a meaningful career at APEXX.
