Application Engineer (Security & Enterprise Applications)

Role Overview

We’re looking for an experienced Application Engineer to implement, manage, secure, and optimize enterprise applications across cloud and SaaS environments. This role will focus on application integrations, identity and access management, workflow automation, troubleshooting, and maintaining secure and reliable application operations. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience implementing enterprise application solutions, automating operational processes, and supporting security and compliance requirements in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Application Implementation & Administration: Implement, configure, and maintain enterprise applications across cloud and SaaS environments. Manage application settings, integrations, upgrades, and ongoing operational support.

• Application Integration: Build and maintain integrations between enterprise applications, identity providers, APIs, and internal systems. Troubleshoot authentication, connectivity, data synchronization, and interoperability issues.

• Identity & Access Management: Support SSO, SAML, OAuth 2.0, and OIDC integrations. Configure application access, role-based permissions, and least-privilege controls in collaboration with security and IT teams.

• Workflow Automation: Develop and maintain automated workflows for application provisioning, onboarding, offboarding, access reviews, and routine operational tasks using scripting and available automation platforms.

• Application Security: Work with Security to identify application vulnerabilities, misconfigurations, excessive permissions, and data exposure risks. Coordinate remediation and validate fixes.

• Cloud & SaaS Operations: Support applications hosted in AWS and other cloud environments. Monitor application health, troubleshoot production issues, and improve reliability, availability, and performance.

• Data Protection & Compliance: Ensure applications follow security policies for sensitive data, including PHI/ePHI where applicable. Support HIPAA and SOC 2 controls, maintain technical documentation, and provide evidence for audits.

• Monitoring & Incident Response: Investigate application errors, access issues, integration failures, and security alerts. Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and preventive improvements.

• Documentation & Support: Maintain application inventories, configuration records, technical runbooks, and troubleshooting procedures. Serve as an escalation point for complex application issues and collaborate with engineering, IT, and security teams.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in application engineering, application administration, systems integration, or enterprise application support.

• Hands-on experience implementing, configuring, and supporting enterprise applications in cloud or SaaS environments.

• Experience with REST APIs, web services, application integrations, and troubleshooting complex technical issues.

• Working knowledge of identity and access management, including SSO, SAML, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, and role-based access control.

• Experience with scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or similar languages.

• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms and enterprise SaaS application environments.

• Understanding of application security, access controls, data protection, and vulnerability remediation.

• Experience with Git, logging, monitoring, and IT service management or ticketing tools.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries.

• Familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, and security risk management practices.

• Experience with Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, or other identity providers.

• Knowledge of endpoint management and security platforms such as Jamf, Intune, or Google Endpoint Management.

• Experience with workflow automation tools and ITSM platforms.

• Familiarity with AWS services, cloud security, and SaaS security controls.

• Experience with AI-enabled applications, GenAI integrations, or secure AI adoption.

• Relevant certifications in cloud, application security, or systems administration are a plus.
