Vehicle Development - Fleet Support Engineer
Location: San Francisco, California (Onsite)
Role Overview
The Fleet Support Engineer on the Vehicle Development team will be actively engaged in the operational uptime of our fleet. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert, adept at collaborating with cross-functional teams, meticulously documenting troubleshooting processes, and providing real-time support for daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for real-time escalations across all vehicle subsystems.
  • Conduct in-depth root cause analysis through comprehensive log review to identify and resolve fleet issues.
  • Develop, update, and maintain a comprehensive troubleshooting guide for technicians, incorporating newly diagnosed faults and their resolutions.
  • Perform hardware bring-up and validation procedures for new sensor components (LiDAR, radar, cameras, etc.).
  • Design and implement diagnostic procedures to streamline future troubleshooting processes, with a focus on sensor calibration and data integrity.
  • Conduct historical review of vehicle and fleet data, including sensor data, to identify trends and issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering design teams to enhance tooling and improve issue detection capabilities.
  • Develop and implement effective countermeasures across the fleet to prevent recurring issues.
  • Define and capture essential data points to validate issue resolution and measure the effectiveness of implemented solutions.
  • Engage in cross-functional collaboration to drive continuous improvement in vehicle performance and reliability.
Work Environment
This role requires availability for one of two shifts: Sunday through Thursday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, or Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Availability for overtime may be needed with advanced notice. Occasional travel within the U.S. may be required to support various operational locations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Automotive Engineering.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in transportation, aerospace, or autonomous vehicles, with a specific focus on perception systems and sensors.
  • Experience with low/high voltage circuits, Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS), and safe troubleshooting procedures.
  • Understanding of hardware and software systems architecture and communications in an operations setting.
  • Ability to apply a holistic problem-solving approach to identify issues with high-level vehicle functions and drive specific resolution into single components.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships across an organization.
  • Ability to comprehend schematics, electrical diagrams, and connector end views/pinouts.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with electric vehicle technology.
  • Experience with remotely supporting vehicle troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of vehicle systems and diagnostics tools.
  • Experience with Linux and Python-based programming systems for fleet-level data processing.
  • Experience with software that interfaces with hardware.
  • Familiarity with networking, TCP, and socket programming.
