The Amazon Web Services Professional Services team is seeking an experienced Senior Delivery Consultant - Mainframe Modernisation to work closely with enterprise customers to assess, design, and deliver mainframe migration and modernisation solutions on AWS. The role involves leading customer success, providing technical expertise in mainframe technologies and cloud native architectures, and guiding teams through complex legacy transformation journeys.

Key responsibilities

• Lead assessment and discovery of customer mainframe estates, including application portfolio analysis, dependency mapping, and modernisation readiness evaluation.
• Design and implement modernisation solutions on AWS - replatforming, refactoring to cloud native services, and automated code transformation.
• Provide deep technical guidance on mainframe technologies (COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2, VSAM) and their AWS equivalents throughout project delivery.
• Collaborate with customer architects, development teams, and business stakeholders to define migration waves, prioritise workloads, and manage cutover risk.
• Act as a trusted advisor on mainframe modernisation trends, including AI assisted code transformation, automated testing strategies and incremental migration patterns.
• Share knowledge within the organisation through mentoring, training, and creating reusable artefacts such as modernisation playbooks, assessment frameworks, and reference architectures.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with Enterprise Application Modernisation and Migration technologies (Mainframe, Serverless, Containers, or Cloud Operations).
• 7+ years of experience with mainframe technologies (z/OS, COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2, VSAM).
• 3+ years of experience with AWS or equivalent cloud platform, particularly migration related services (e.g., AWS Mainframe Modernisation, DMS, SCT, Step Functions, Lambda).
• Experience with mainframe modernisation patterns: replatforming, refactoring to cloud native, or automated code transformation.
• Experience with database migration from mainframe systems (DB2, IMS, VSAM) to cloud native databases (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB).

Preferred Qualifications

• 7+ years of mainframe and legacy systems experience.
• 5+ years of experience leading or delivering application modernisation, legacy migration, or large scale platform transformation programmes.
• 3+ years of experience with AWS services relevant to migration and modernisation.
• Experience migrating mainframe data stores to cloud native databases or data lakes.
• 5+ years of external customer facing consulting or delivery experience on complex, multi stakeholder transformation programmes.
• Experience with application portfolio assessment, dependency mapping, and workload disposition (rehost, refactor, replatform).
• Exposure to AI assisted code analysis, code transformation, or generative AI tools for legacy code understanding.
