Jr. Systems Administrator

Location: Pompano Beach, FL
Work Arrangement: Onsite, 5 days per week

Defined Software Development is seeking an experienced Jr. Systems Administrator for a contract consulting opportunity supporting a major technology environment in Pompano Beach, Florida.

This role supports the daily operation and maintenance of server, storage, network, and infrastructure systems. The ideal candidate has a solid foundation in systems administration and networking, along with experience supporting environments that include Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, virtualization, backups, and system monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the configuration and administration of virtual servers in VMware and/or Hyper-V environments.
• Assist with system patching, updates, and maintenance to support system health and security.
• Support Active Directory user and group administration and Group Policy.
• Help maintain core infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, DFS, and certificates.
• Perform basic network troubleshooting, including connectivity issues, switch and port status, and configuration issues.
• Monitor system and network health using established monitoring tools.
• Maintain and verify backup systems and participate in disaster recovery testing.
• Assist with deployment and setup of infrastructure equipment, including switches, access points, and cabling.
• Document system configurations, technical procedures, troubleshooting steps, and standard operating procedures.
• Maintain accurate incident tracking and asset information through service desk and inventory systems.
• Participate in infrastructure projects, team meetings, and technical assignments.
• Provide support at remote locations as needed and participate in after-hours or on-call activities when assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of IT experience in technical support, help desk, systems administration, or a related role.
• Experience with Active Directory user and group management.
• Basic understanding of Group Policy.
• Basic networking knowledge, including troubleshooting connectivity issues.
• Familiarity with VMware and/or Hyper-V.
• Experience with backup and recovery processes.
• Basic PowerShell knowledge.
• Familiarity with system or network monitoring tools.
• Experience using ticketing systems and maintaining technical documentation.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated with an interest in continuing to develop systems administration and infrastructure skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ certification.
• Azure Fundamentals certification or exposure to cloud platforms.
• Technical degree, certificate, or equivalent IT experience.

Additional Requirements

• This is an onsite position in Pompano Beach, FL, Monday through Friday.
• Occasional travel to remote locations may be required.
• Ability to participate in after-hours support or an on-call rotation as assigned.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
