Position Purpose:
Provide a brief description as to the primary purpose of this job (no more than three to five sentences). Responsible for reviewing and approving non-hazardous industrial waste for landfill disposal at Veolia landfills and case-by-case approvals for facilities in accordance with site capabilities, approved permits, and appropriate regulatory requirements. Determine acceptability or rejection of chemical components of waste materials utilizing a variety of analytical, MSDS’s, and facility information to expedite non-hazardous waste in a timely manner to the satisfaction of the customer and facility personnel. Conduct special waste audits of landfills. Ensures that approval process is in proper compliance with company policies and procedures.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of Waste Acceptance Plan (WAP) requirements.
- Understand disposal capabilities and applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including RCRA, EPA, and DOT requirements.
- Review and approve waste profile sheets, supplemental forms, and waste analysis reports for accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Provide final approval of waste profiles when appropriate.
- Evaluate reactive and over-packed waste streams for hazards, incompatibilities, and safety concerns.
- Complete and revise technical documentation, including 5-page profile sheets, disposal decisions, site addenda, and receiving forms.
- Determine appropriate analytical testing requirements for waste treatment and disposal.
- Identify deficiencies or discrepancies in waste profile information.
- Coordinate with customer service, laboratory, and sales teams to resolve profile issues.
- Provide technical assistance to approval chemists, sales teams, and customers regarding waste stream acceptability.
- Provide guidance regarding permit requirements and the safe handling of reactive materials.
- Process waste profile modification requests.
- Update and maintain records in the IBMi/AS400 system.
- Communicate with operations, environmental, health and safety, and accounting regarding material acceptance.
- Evaluate material acceptance from permitting, operational, safety, and cost perspectives.
- Consult with internal resources to determine whether reactive and over-packed drums can be safely managed.
- Contact waste generators and manufacturers when additional technical information is needed.
- Provide technical support to receiving and operations departments.
- Develop cost analyses for the approval, receiving, processing, and incineration of reactive waste streams.
- Partner with operations and accounting when developing cost analyses.
Education/Experience/Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a foreign equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a related occupation.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Minimum 1 year of experience with IBMi/AS400.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on laboratory or field experience evaluating, processing, and coordinating the safe handling and elimination of hazardous materials.
- Experience maintaining strict hazardous-material safety protocols and procedures.
- Minimum 2 years of experience interpreting and applying federal and state hazardous waste regulations related to incineration operations, including:
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) combustion standards.
- Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) incineration requirements.
- Department of Transportation (DOT) shipping protocols.
- Land Disposal Restrictions (LDR) treatment standards.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Must successfully complete a drug screen, if applicable.
Position Details:
- Location: Sauget, Illinois
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Hours: 40 hours per week

Pay Range: $76,877 to $83,000 Per Year.
