Role: Technical Specialist - Storage & Backup Lead

Location: Birmingham (SCC operate hybrid working, which comprises of a mix of office and home working)

Contract Type: Permanent

Role purpose:

Provide hands-on technical leadership for the maintenance, monitoring and architecture of storage and backup infrastructure across the SCC DCS client base and SCC Cloud Solutions. The role provides senior technical guidance, supports service delivery and acts as a key escalation point for complex incidents

Key responsibilities:

• Act as the primary technical escalation point for major incidents affecting Storage and Backup service delivery across data centres and customer sites.
• Provide hands-on senior technical expertise and advanced troubleshooting support for customer storage and backup environments.
  
• Provide technical leadership, guidance and support to the Storage and Backup team, including 3rd and 4th line engineers.
  
• Manage incidents and problems appropriately within agreed service levels, including technical root cause analysis for recurring incidents.
  
• Work with project teams to help ensure technical solution designs align with customer requirements and operational support needs.
  
• Ensure technical documentation is completed, maintained and updated to professional standards.
  
• Identify technical risks, recurring problems and potential service improvements across customer storage and backup environments.
  
• Help deliver technical excellence and contribute to the technical and service goals defined by DCS management.
  
• Ensure clients are backed up in line with agreed service levels and service schedules, and proactively review performance and capacity trends.
  
• Ensure the correct configuration and ongoing technical oversight of SAN, NAS, backup and associated switching technologies, and carry out basic team personnel administration where required.
  

Skills and experience:

• Minimum five years experience supporting enterprise-level clients in a fast-paced, multi-customer technical operations environment.
  
• Demonstrable hands-on expertise across at least two storage technologies, two backup technologies including Veeam and one SAN technology, supported by appropriate certification or equivalent experience.
  
• Experience of enterprise SAN, NAS, tape and data protection technologies, including relevant storage platforms, backup products and SAN switching technologies.
  
• Ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-site and multi-disciplinary technical incidents, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  
• Strong technical leadership, organisation, documentation and customer-facing skills, with the ability to guide senior engineers and handle demanding environments professionally.
  
• Self-motivated and detail-focused, with a collaborative can-do approach, ITIL awareness, strong work ethic and willingness to provide out-of-hours escalation, support and leadership when required.
• **Please note: You will need to qualify for SC, HPPV and Home Office security clearance to be eligible for this role .
