ServiceNow Developer Core Engineering Position Overview We are seeking hands-on ServiceNow Developers to join a Core Engineering team supporting advanced platform development. This role is for engineers who can architect and build complex, scalable solutions from the ground up not administrators or functional configurators. Candidates will be evaluated on raw engineering depth and platform scalability skills, not on familiarity with any single business module. IMPORTANT: This is strictly a ServiceNow Developer role NOT a ServiceNow Administrator role. Candidates must have hands-on ServiceNow Development experience (custom scripting, integrations, component/widget builds). ServiceNow Administration/Configuration experience alone does NOT meet the requirements for this position.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy custom, upgrade-safe ServiceNow applications and components from scratch.
Build custom widgets and components within ServiceNow Workspace (beyond configuring out-of-the-box widgets). Develop complex flow designs, custom forms, lifecycle events, and portals.
Build and maintain inbound/outbound integrations with third-party and enterprise systems (REST/SOAP, GenAI/LLM based workflow integrations).
Write and maintain custom server-side and client-side scripts (Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI Policies/Actions) to solve complex platform logic challenges.
Ensure all custom development is scalable, performant, and upgrade-safe across ServiceNow releases.
Participate in live instance-based technical evaluations/use cases to demonstrate hands-on coding and problem-solving ability.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. Required Qualifications
ServiceNow certification(s) required (e.g., Certified System Administrator plus Certified Application Developer or equivalent advanced certification).
Demonstrated hands-on development experience not limited to configuration, catalog builds, or UI Policy management.
Strong scripting skills: JavaScript, Glide APIs, Script Includes, Business Rules, UI Actions/Policies.
Proven experience building custom components and widgets from scratch within ServiceNow Workspace or Service Portal.
Deep, hands-on experience with integration architecture REST/SOAP web services, MID Server, and third-party system integrations.
Ability to design and build upgrade-safe customizations that persist through platform version upgrades.
Strong understanding of platform scalability and performance optimization for custom-built applications. Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have, Not Required)
Experience in one or more of the following technical towers (module expertise is secondary to core development strength): HRSD complex flow design, custom forms, lifecycle events, portals (e.g., Alumni/Employee portals); benefits from familiarity with HR business processes (Employee Relations, Compensation).
Platform & Integrations external system integrations (e.g., enterprise HR/legal/reimbursement tools), GenAI/LLM-based workflow routing.
ITSM traditional IT workflow development and complex platform scripting.
Prior experience acting as a technical lead/anchor coordinating onshore/offshore or nearshore development teams. Evaluation Approach Candidates will be assessed through live instance-based technical scenarios, evaluating actual hands-on scripting, integration-building, and development execution not resume keywords or module tags (HRSD vs. ITSM vs. IRM, etc.). Strong configuration/administration experience alone will not meet the bar for this role. What We're Looking For (Summary) Trait Description Core Developer, not Configurator Must demonstrate real coding/scripting depth beyond declarative configuration Module-Agnostic Engineering Strength Deep platform/engineering skill matters more than HRSD/ITSM/IRM specialization Build-From-Scratch Capability Able to build custom, scalable components (e.g., Workspace widgets) rather than only customizing OOB features Upgrade-Safe Development Solutions must survive ServiceNow platform upgrades without breaking Integration Depth Comfortable architecting and building integrations with external enterprise systems Notes for Recruiters/Sources
Screen out candidates whose experience is primarily Administration/Configuration (instance management, UI Policies) without corresponding scripting/integration depth.
Sourcing should target immediate technical need (Platform/Integration vs. HRSD vs. ITSM) as specified per open requisition, since a strong candidate in one tower may not fit an immediate vacancy in another.
Strong, proactive US-based onsite Senior ServiceNow Lead/Architect candidates are of particular strategic interest and may be fast-tracked for review
