Job Description

Role: Senior AI Agent Engineer (Healthcare Prior Authorization)

Location: Remote (USA)

Duration: 6-Month Contract

Work Authorization: Permanent Residents Only

 

Required Skills:

Production deployment of LLM and AI agent systems at scale.

Experience designing multi-step workflows with robust failure handling.

Deep expertise in RAG, retrieval quality, and citation-backed reasoning.

Development of evaluation frameworks grounded in expert-labeled datasets.

Successful delivery of AI solutions in regulated healthcare environments.

Ability to partner effectively with clinicians, compliance teams, and engineering organizations.

A mindset that treats safety, auditability, and human review as system architecture requirements rather than policy statements.

AI & Agent Engineering

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong Python development expertise.
  • Proven experience building and deploying production LLM applications and AI agent systems.
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • LangGraph or similar workflow orchestration frameworks
  • Tool-calling architectures
  • Multi-agent systems
  • Structured outputs and typed interfaces
  • State-machine and graph-based workflow design
  • Human-in-the-loop workflows
  • Strong understanding of AI safety, reliability, and operational guardrails.

Retrieval & Knowledge Systems

  • Experience designing and deploying enterprise-scale RAG systems.
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Embeddings
    • Vector databases
    • Retrieval evaluation
    • Context optimization
    • Citation grounding
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, pgvector, Chroma DB, Pinecone, Weaviate, or similar systems.

Healthcare Domain Expertise

  • Demonstrated experience in healthcare, payer, insurance, clinical operations, or regulated healthcare technology environments.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Medicare Advantage
    • Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS)
    • Prior Authorization workflows
    • Medical Necessity Criteria
    • CMS regulations
    • CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems
    • NCD and LCD policies
    • CARC and RARC codes
    • PHI governance and compliance requirements

Engineering Excellence

  • Advanced Python development skills.
  • Experience building APIs using FastAPI.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Async programming
    • Testing frameworks
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Software architecture
    • Production observability and monitoring
  • Experience designing highly available and maintainable systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building healthcare AI products on a scale.
  • Background in utilization management, prior authorization, claims processing, or clinical decision support.
  • Experience developing regulated AI systems requiring audit trails and compliance review.
  • Familiarity with FHIR, HL7, and healthcare interoperability standards.
  • Experience leveraging Claude, Claude Code, or similar AI-assisted development tools for engineering workflows, technical specifications, evaluations, documentation, and code reviews.
