Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, develop, test, and enhance software applications and systems.
  • Build scalable backend applications using Java and the Spring ecosystem.
  • Develop and maintain RESTful web services.
  • Design and optimize full-text search, indexing, and retrieval capabilities.
  • Contribute to large-scale search architecture and system design.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, maintainable code.
  • Participate in unit, system, performance, and acceptance testing.
  • Lead or contribute to the development of new features across multiple system modules.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Evaluate emerging search, Big Data, and software-development technologies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least four years of professional software-development experience.
  • Expert-level Java programming and object-oriented design experience.
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot or the Spring Framework.
  • Experience using Gradle.
  • Hands-on experience developing RESTful web services.
  • Experience with Scala and Python.
  • Production experience with one or more full-text search and indexing technologies, including:
    • Apache Lucene
    • Apache Solr
    • Elasticsearch
    • OpenSearch
    • Vespa
    • A comparable enterprise search platform
  • Experience designing or supporting large-scale search systems.
  • Experience with Big Data technologies, including Hadoop or Apache Spark.
  • Strong Linux or Unix experience.
  • Understanding of database-design principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative development environment.

Highly Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with graph-search technologies and vector databases.
  • Experience developing applications using large language models.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor or Claude.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as New Relic.
  • NoSQL experience with MongoDB, Cassandra, or DynamoDB.
  • Relational database experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL.
  • Docker and Kubernetes experience.
  • Experience with performance optimization, load testing, or stress testing.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Sponsorship is not available.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Columbus three days per week.
  • Candidates outside the area must be willing to relocate.
