Job Description

Invoice-to-Cash Support Specialist (Billing Operations)

Location: Remote – U.S.
Contract: 12-month W2 contract
Pay: $60–$70/hour
Openings: 5
Schedule: Remote within the U.S.; no specific time zone requirement

Russell Tobin is supporting a rapidly growing technology company in hiring Invoice-to-Cash Support Specialists to join its Finance organization.

This is a customer-facing, high-volume billing support role supporting an Invoice-to-Cash (I2C) team responsible for thousands of customer accounts. Customers regularly reach out with billing questions, reconciliation requests, payment investigations, and account discrepancies, and the speed and accuracy of those resolutions directly impact both the customer experience and how quickly invoices are paid.

You will serve as a frontline resource for customer billing and I2C questions while owning internal escalations from Sales and go-to-market teams from open to close. Your role is to research each issue, identify the answer, coordinate with the teams involved, and provide a clear, actionable response that moves the issue to resolution.

This is a customer support and resolution role, not a collections portfolio role. You will not own a collections portfolio or carry a cash target. You also will not be responsible for configuring financial systems or building engineering fixes; instead, you will identify issues, escalate them to the appropriate teams, and track them through resolution.

The environment moves quickly. Priorities may shift throughout the day, case volume is high, and requests can range from a straightforward account lookup to a detailed reconciliation across payment processors, billing systems, ERP platforms, the general ledger, and multiple internal teams.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a frontline resource for high-volume customer billing and Invoice-to-Cash questions, owning cases from open through resolution within established SLAs.
  • Own internal escalations from Sales and GTM teams and coordinate across Billing, Sales Operations, Revenue Operations, Tax, Support, and other internal teams to resolve issues.
  • Work directly with customers to resolve billing and payment questions, including obtaining missing remittance information, clarifying account details, and providing clear customer-ready responses.
  • Take on research and reconciliation work from Collections and Cash Application teams so those teams can remain focused on managing their accounts.
  • Investigate payments, unapplied cash, credits, invoice discrepancies, and other transactional or administrative issues.
  • Perform account reconciliations across customer ledgers, payment processors, billing platforms, ERP systems, and the general ledger when payments, credits, or account balances do not align.
  • Research discrepancies involving invoice numbers, dates, payment records, balances, and customer account activity.
  • Identify recurring process or system gaps and escalate them to the appropriate teams.
  • Track system configuration issues and engineering-related fixes through resolution.
  • Maintain ownership of multiple open cases at different stages and keep customers and internal stakeholders informed of progress.
  • Reprioritize quickly as new high-priority customer or business issues emerge.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hands-on, customer-facing experience in accounts receivable, billing operations, order-to-cash, Invoice-to-Cash, finance operations, or a high-volume customer operations environment.
  • Intermediate Excel or Google Sheets skills, including lookups, pivot tables, and basic reconciliation logic.
  • Experience managing a ticket, case, or support queue with multiple open items at different stages.
  • Experience understanding how customer contracts, orders, or commercial terms translate into invoices.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify small variances, incorrect invoice references, mismatched payment information, and date discrepancies.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to provide clear, professional responses that customers and internal partners can immediately act on.
  • Strong research and problem-solving skills with the ability to work across multiple systems and data sources.
  • Ability to independently manage a high-volume workload in a remote environment without close supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of experience in accounts receivable, billing operations, order-to-cash, finance operations, or high-volume customer operations.
  • Experience with payment processors, ERP systems, AR automation platforms, or ticketing tools such as Stripe, NetSuite, Tesorio, JIRA, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting SaaS or usage-based billing models.
  • Previous experience in customer-facing billing, collections support, or Tier 2 customer support.
  • Basic familiarity with general ledger concepts and how accounts receivable ties to the balance sheet.
  • Experience performing customer account or payment reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated ability to obtain answers and drive resolution across busy cross-functional teams while remaining persistent and tactful.
  • Comfort operating in an environment where priorities can change quickly throughout the day.
  • Interest in using AI tools to research issues, improve customer communications, automate repetitive work, and make finance operations more efficient.

Who Will Be Successful

This role is well suited for someone who enjoys solving customer problems, investigating discrepancies, and getting issues fully resolved.

The strongest candidates will be comfortable moving between customer communication, financial research, reconciliation work, and internal coordination throughout the day. You should enjoy working through ambiguity, know when to escalate an issue, and be persistent about following it through until there is a clear answer.

This opportunity also provides broad exposure across the Invoice-to-Cash lifecycle, including Billing, Collections, Cash Application, Credit, Revenue Operations, Sales Operations, Tax, and customer support processes.
