Regional Heavy Plant Service Engineer – Electrical Bias

Express Recruitment are excited to be working with a rapidly growing engineering firm specialising in the service and installation of heavy plant machinery, from cranes to gantries to nationwide and overseas customers. Following an upsurge in new & renewed service and installation contracts, they are seeking an experienced Heavy Plant Service Engineer with proven experience in electrical maintenance and servicing of overhead cranes and associated plant equipment.

In return, the successful candidate will receive a generous starting salary of up to £48,000. Skills & Experience

• Apprentice trained/HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline
• Strong electrical/electro-mechanical fault-finding experience, confident working without drawings
• Demonstrable experience with three-phase systems and associated equipment
• Hands-on experience with cranes, hoists, inverters, drives, motors and gearboxes
• Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical lifting equipment
• Previous experience in MIG welding repair and fabrication desirable but not essential
• Previous experience operating and maintaining overhead cranes strongly preferred
• Comfortable and competent working at height (IPAF trained)
• Current holder of EMSS/CCNSG Safety Passport and Abrasive Wheels preferred
• Valid UK Driving Licence essential

Roles & Responsibilities

• Inspect, service, maintain and repair overhead cranes and lifting equipment across a wide range of industries including but not limited to overhead cranes, jib cranes, runway systems, hoists, light cranes and mobile gantries
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults, often without the aid of detailed electrical drawings
• Carry out fault finding and repairs on various equipment, such as three phase motors, inverters, variable speed drives, gearboxes, hydraulics and pneumatics systems
• Replace and install control panels
• Operate and work safely with overhead cranes and lifting equipment, including slinging and lifting operations
• Troubleshoot complex engineering challenges, ensuring minimal downtime for customers
• Work safely at height and in confined or challenging environments
• Maintain accurate service records via digital systems and provide clear reports to customers
• Schedule visits to customers throughout the North East Region
• Respond to same day emergency call out when required Liaising with customers to explain work completed and advise on safety or operational improvements
