Rate: £350 per day (Outside IR35)
Location: Remote with occasional office visits

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Java Developer to join a high-profile digital delivery team on an initial 6-month contract. This role is primarily remote, with occasional travel to the office as required. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing robust Java-based solutions within an agile environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a developer with strong Back End experience who enjoys working on large-scale digital services and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java applications and microservices.
• Build scalable and secure software solutions using modern development practices.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, Architects, DevOps Engineers, and QA teams.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Contribute to solution design and technical decision-making.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues when required.
• Support continuous integration and deployment activities.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Java development.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Good understanding of Spring Boot and related frameworks.
• Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.
• Knowledge of version control systems, particularly Git.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, etc.).
• Previous public sector or government project experience.
• Understanding of secure coding and application security principles.

Security Requirements

• Candidates must be eligible to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
• Must have lived and worked in the UK for the required clearance eligibility period.
