Web Application Firewall Engineer (Akamai/F5)

Must Have Technical/Functional Skills

Minimum 8 years of knowledge and experience with deployment and maintenance of enterprise web application firewall products: Akamai Kona, F5 ASM/AWAF, and Salt API Protection.

Good working knowledge of troubleshooting techniques: performing and analyzing packet captures, CLI commands, and familiarity with network protocols.

Deep understanding of application layer TCP/IP Layer 7 security fundamentals.

Ability to analyze application logs and collaborate with developers to ensure secure coding practices are implemented.

Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or a relevant field of study.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

Ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels across the organization and understand business imperatives.

Strong customer/client focus with the ability to manage expectations and provide a superior client experience.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule and participate in on-call rotations for incident resolution.

Roles & Responsibilities

Oversee operations, monitoring, and day-to-day troubleshooting for enterprise Web Application Firewalls (F5 and Akamai).

Provide expert-level troubleshooting and support for core security infrastructure and technologies, with potential expansion into Network Access Control (NAC), traditional firewalls, and broader network security tooling.

Perform architecture and engineering activities in support of existing platforms and new security initiatives.

Conduct regular health checks, performance tuning, and user activity audits across security systems.

Author and actively maintain documentation covering design, purpose, operations, and administrative procedures for security applications.

Nice to Have

Coding and scripting experience (such as Python or PowerShell) to automate operational tasks.
