Job Description

Role : presales engineer

Location: Greenwich NY

Note: Client is not willing to sponsor any visa.

Project Need/Overview

BNY needs a client-facing Infrastructure/Network Solutions Architect to design connectivity between the bank and its external clients or vendors. Although the requisition is titled Infrastructure Engineer IV, the manager described a pre-sales-style technical design role not a hands-on network configuration position.

  • Translate client requirements into connectivity designs using roughly six approved standard architectures, identifying exceptions that require further review.
  • Support a fast-paced portfolio averaging approximately 20 projects per architect, ranging from simple VPN connections to complex, six-month implementations.
  • Spend a significant portion of the day in client discussions, explaining designs, answering technical questions, and coordinating onboarding.
  • The job specification also references support for tokenization-related connectivity and broader infrastructure modernization.

Ideal Candidate Profile / Background

The priority is someone with deep networking knowledge who has moved into client-facing solution design and can clearly explain the technology not simply a strong network engineer.

  • Relevant background: Pre-sales engineer, network solutions architect, design engineer, or client solutions architect. Experience with a networking vendor such as Cisco or a network consulting firm aligns well with the manager s examples.
  • Technical foundation: Strong understanding of extranets, DMZs, private connectivity, VPNs, file transfers, and application traffic flows through firewalls, routers, and load balancers.
  • Communication: Comfortable leading external client conversations, whiteboarding solutions, presenting architecture, and producing precise written documentation. The manager emphasized that client discussions can occupy roughly half the day.
  • Design documentation: Strong PowerPoint and Visio skills to create clear diagrams, presentations, and implementation documentation.
  • Experience level: The specification lists 10+ years, but the manager was flexible on an exact threshold and emphasized relevant experience over a rigid year requirement.
  • Industry background: Financial services is strongly preferred, though not mandatory; internet/technology company experience was also mentioned as relevant.
  • Working style: Organized, adaptable, and able to switch between numerous clients and projects with varying complexity and support needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead client discovery and kickoff discussions to understand connectivity requirements and explain BNY s available design options.
  • Develop end-to-end connectivity designs using approved patterns, documenting application flows and coordinating review of departures from standards.
  • Present designs and obtain client agreement, ensuring both technical and nontechnical stakeholders understand the proposed solution.
  • Create and maintain PowerPoint presentations, Visio diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate implementation with network engineering teams, which perform the actual router, firewall, and load-balancer configuration.
  • Validate the implementation against the design and work with the client on connectivity testing and issue resolution.
  • Stay engaged through production go-live, then transition the design documentation to operations.
  • Provide SME consultation or level-three escalation support as needed after handoff not ongoing NOC or frontline operational support.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, maintaining client communication and coordinating infrastructure, application, deployment, and project teams.
