Position Overview

As an EMC Test Technician, you will support the day-to-day operation of a portion of our Fortune 100 client's Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) test site in Peoria, IL (fully onsite). In this hands-on role, you will set up and perform tests, troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and software issues, maintain test equipment, and document test results.

You will work with a wide range of products, including autonomous vehicles, fully electric machines, construction equipment, and mining equipment. This is an opportunity to work alongside EMC Engineers and Senior Technicians while developing expertise in laboratory equipment automation, radio frequency (RF) physics, and EMC testing. Direct EMC experience is preferred, but candidates with strong electronics, electrical, RF, or technical troubleshooting backgrounds are encouraged to apply and will receive training.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up equipment and products for EMC testing and ensure test configurations are properly prepared.
• Conduct EMC and RF tests and monitor test equipment throughout the testing process.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, software, and test-system issues identified during testing.
• Investigate test failures and work with engineers and technicians to identify potential root causes.
• Support EMC Engineers with regulatory requirements and RF physics consulting when appropriate.
• Document test procedures, test results, troubleshooting activities, and findings accurately and thoroughly.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and assist with the operation of EMC test equipment.
• Work with clients and engineering teams to troubleshoot products and ensure test methods appropriately represent potential field conditions.
• Collaborate with Senior Technicians to plan tests, prepare equipment, and maintain test systems.
• Work with EMC Engineers and product teams across the organization to support electronic product testing and resolve technical issues.
• Manage multiple active testing projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
• Perform hands-on testing at the client's Peoria proving grounds, including outdoor work around large construction, mining, autonomous, and electric equipment.
• Travel periodically to support testing at remote client sites in Indiana and Arizona

Education & Experience

• Associate's degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
• AND 0-1 years of relevant experience; may include relevant internships, academics, laboratory work, or hands-on technical experience.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems across a variety of systems.
• Examples may include:
• Ham radio or software defined radio work or hobby
• General electronics experience
• Radio Frequency electronics experience
• Electronic lab equipment like Spectrum analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Power Meters, Amplifies, Signal Generators, and Network Analyzers.
• Previous work at an EMC lab.

Additional Technical Skills

• Basic electronics knowledge, including concepts such as capacitance, soldering, crimping, and reading circuit diagrams.
• Understanding of radio frequency (RF) concepts and physics.
• Familiarity with electronic laboratory equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, signal generators, amplifiers, and network analyzers.
• General electronics, electrical, or RF experience.
• Experience with ham radio or software-defined radio (SDR) is a plus.
• Previous experience in an EMC laboratory or EMC testing environment is highly preferred.
• General computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
