Job Description

Python Developer (Data Applications and AI Engineering)
Contract: 6 to 12 months (longer term available at a lower day rate)| UK based, fully remote | Outside IR35 | Start ASAP
My client, a specialist consultancy within Data and AI is looking for a hands on Python developer to join its data science team, working with a client to build data applications and automated pipelines that replace manual processes. You will use AI coding tools every day to speed up how you build, test and deliver.
This is a delivery role. You will be embedded in an established, mature team, working closely with business users and taking solutions from first prototype through to production.
What you will be doing
  • Building and deploying Python web applications, mainly in Shiny, from rapid prototypes to production
  • Creating responsive, intuitive interfaces for data and AI applications
  • Integrating applications with Snowflake, Snowflake Cortex and REST APIs
  • Building and maintaining automated data pipelines in Python and SQL
  • Moving Excel and file based processes into reliable, automated Snowflake pipelines
  • Developing applications powered by LLMs, AI agents and agentic workflows
  • Using AI coding agents to speed up prototyping, development and testing
  • Designing reusable application components and data solutions that support several business functions
  • Implementing authentication, access controls and background processing where needed
  • Working directly with business stakeholders to understand requirements, build solutions and manage delivery
  • Making sure everything you build is tested, documented and maintainable
What you will bring
  • Around 5 to 10 years of hands on development experience
  • Strong Python, with experience building web applications and user interfaces. Shiny experience is not essential: if you understand how to build a good UI, think about the data model behind an app and care about the user experience, you will pick it up quickly with existing codebases to learn from
  • Strong SQL and commercial experience with Snowflake
  • Experience integrating Python applications with Snowflake and REST APIs
  • A track record of turning manual, Excel based or file based processes into automated data solutions
  • Experience taking applications from prototype to production
  • Regular, hands on use of AI coding agents for coding, debugging, testing and delivery
  • Solid engineering practices, including Git, automated testing and CI/CD
  • The ability to work independently, manage your own priorities and deliver to agreed timelines
  • Clear, concise communication and confidence building relationships with business stakeholders
Nice to have
  • ETL or ELT pipeline design, including orchestration with Dagster and transformation with dbt
  • Snowflake Cortex, including Agents, Search and LLM integration
  • Experience building AI powered applications and conversational interfaces
  • Azure App Service, authentication and user level access controls
  • Configuration driven development using YAML or similar
  • Docker or Kubernetes
  • Application monitoring, logging and observability
  • LLM frameworks and prompt engineering
Who this suits
Someone who enjoys building and getting stuck in, rather than advising or managing. You will slot into an existing team as a genuine member of it, get to the heart of a problem quickly, explain your thinking clearly and concisely, and be comfortable taking ownership without needing direction at every step.
The process
Two stages: an interview with the consultancy, including a practical problem solving discussion, followed by an interview with the client.
