Job Description

JOB TITLE: Senior VoIP/DevOps Engineer – Cloud Voice Infrastructure

ABOUT THE ROLE: We're looking for a seasoned VoIP and DevOps professional to take ownership of the voice infrastructure powering our conversational AI platform. This is a hands-on engineering role sitting at the crossroads of telephony, cloud operations, and automation — you'll be the person who keeps enterprise-grade calling systems running smoothly around the clock while continuously improving how they're built and deployed.

WORK LOCATION: Irving, TX (fully onsite)

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Telephony & Voice Systems

  • Build, configure, and maintain core VoIP infrastructure spanning FreeSWITCH, RTPengine, Asterisk, FreePBX, Vicidial, and various IVR systems
  • Own FreeSWITCH configuration and dialplan work for new customer rollouts and product launches
  • Design for scale — keeping voice services highly available and horizontally scalable as demand grows
  • Manage physical and virtual telephony connectivity: PRI cards, PRI/analog gateways, and PSTN circuits

Cloud & Automation

  • Run VoIP workloads across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, tuning for both cost efficiency and performance
  • Operate Kubernetes environments (EKS, AKS, GKE) that host voice microservices
  • Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and Ansible to streamline releases
  • Write and maintain shell scripts that automate routine operations and incident runbooks

Systems Administration

  • Manage Linux infrastructure (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) supporting voice workloads, watching for performance drift
  • Diagnose OS-level issues that surface as call quality, latency, or reliability problems
  • Keep systems hardened and current on patches per security policy

Protocol-Level Troubleshooting

  • Bring deep SIP/RTP expertise to bear on signaling and media-path issues
  • Perform packet-level analysis with Wireshark and Tcpdump to trace root causes
  • Resolve SIP call failures, codec mismatches, NAT traversal problems, and abnormal RTP streams

Data Layer

  • Support the MySQL and PostgreSQL databases behind call configuration, CDRs, and session state
  • Handle query tuning, backup strategy, and schema changes as the platform evolves

Security & Compliance

  • Guard voice infrastructure against fraud, toll fraud, and DDoS activity
  • Maintain alignment with internal security policy and relevant industry standards
  • Contribute to FedRAMP and SOC 2 compliance efforts tied to voice systems

On-Call & Incident Response

  • Rotate through on-call coverage for voice infrastructure, including nights and weekends when needed
  • Lead root-cause investigations and post-incident reviews after outages
  • Keep runbooks and escalation paths current and usable under pressure

Cross-Functional Work

  • Coordinate closely with Platform Engineering, Release Management, InfoSec, and customer-facing teams
  • Translate technical incident details into clear updates for both technical and non-technical audiences

WHAT YOU BRING:

Required:

  • 10+ years of hands-on VoIP systems engineering experience
  • Deep, practical FreeSWITCH expertise — configuration, dialplan authoring, and deployment from scratch
  • Solid working knowledge of Asterisk, FreePBX, Vicidial, and IVR platform administration
  • Strong grasp of SIP and RTP protocols, including signaling flow diagnostics
  • Advanced Linux administration skills (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu)
  • Direct experience running VoIP workloads on AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud Platform
  • Working Kubernetes knowledge (EKS, AKS, GKE)
  • Comfort with Wireshark and Tcpdump for network-level troubleshooting
  • Experience building CI/CD workflows with Jenkins and Ansible
  • Strong shell scripting ability
  • Familiarity administering MySQL and PostgreSQL
  • Hands-on background with PRI cards, PRI/analog gateways, and PSTN connectivity
  • Ability to work fully onsite in Irving, TX
  • Willingness to respond to off-hours emergencies, including weekends, as needed

Nice to Have:

  • AWS or Google Cloud Professional certification
  • RTPengine experience in high-traffic media proxy environments
  • Exposure to enterprise conversational AI platforms
  • VoIP security hardening background (SIP firewalls, TLS/SRTP, fraud detection)
  • Familiarity with FedRAMP requirements as applied to voice systems
  • Experience standing up large-scale dialer or IVR applications

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
