Utility Business Analyst | W2 Role

Position: Utility Business Analyst
Location: Springfield, VA / DMV Region - Hybrid 2/3 days per week

Key Responsibilities

• Partner directly with business and operational stakeholders to understand and document processes.
• Gather and document business requirements, workflows, user stories, functional requirements, and specifications.
• Translate business needs into clear functional and technical requirements.
• Develop current-state and future-state process documentation and workflow diagrams.
• Facilitate requirements-gathering sessions, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
• Identify process gaps and help stakeholders define desired future-state workflows.
• Support application upgrades, integrations, and new technology implementations.
• Coordinate across business teams, IT, developers, testers, project teams, and third-party vendors.
• Support UAT, testing, validation, and defect resolution activities.
• Manage multiple workstreams and priorities simultaneously.
• Maintain clear requirements and project documentation throughout the delivery lifecycle.

Key Projects / Workstreams

The BA is expected to support several initiatives running in parallel, including:

• SRE Upgrade
• Lemur Upgrade
• SAP-to-Open Grid Integration
• Application Role Decommission
• App Extender Implementation

Must-Haves

• Strong hands-on Business Analyst experience supporting enterprise technology/application initiatives
• Strong requirements gathering and documentation skills
• Business process mapping and workflow documentation experience
• Ability to translate business needs into functional and technical requirements
• Experience developing user stories and detailed requirements
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Ability to work directly with stakeholders when requirements or processes aren't fully defined
• Experience working across both business and technical teams
• Ability to work independently and navigate ambiguity
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives
• Strong technical aptitude
• Utility/energy industry experience

Nice-to-Haves

• SAP experience, particularly around upgrades, enhancements, or integrations
• Previous gas, electric, or regulated utility experience
• System integration experience
• Agile/Scrum delivery experience
• User story and acceptance criteria development
• Application implementation or upgrade experience
• UAT/testing experience
