Job Description

Role: Compliance Engineer

Location: Smithville, TN 37166

Duration: 12 months +

Job purpose

lead and support product compliance activities across domestic and international markets. This role is responsible for ensuring that all products meet applicable regulatory, certification, and safety standards throughout the product lifecycle, from design and development through production and market release.

The ideal candidate will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Suppliers and external certification bodies to drive compliance strategy, manage certifications, and mitigate regulatory risk

Duties and responsibilities

•             Lead compliance efforts for new and existing products to meet domestic and international regulatory and safety requirements

•             Manage product certifications and approvals, including but not limited to UL, ETL, CSA, CE, UKCA, IEC, FCC, and other global standards

•             Serve as the primary technical contact with third-party certification agencies, test labs, and regulatory authorities

•             Interpret and apply applicable standards related to electrical safety, mechanical safety, EMC, energy efficiency, and environmental compliance

•             Support product design reviews to ensure compliance is addressed early in the development process

•             Coordinate and support compliance testing, including sample preparation, documentation, corrective actions, and follow-up testing

•             Maintain and manage compliance documentation, technical files, declarations of conformity, and certification records

•             Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and standards, and assess impact on existing and future products

•             Support manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure ongoing compliance during production and supplier changes

•             Assist with audits, inspections, and customer compliance inquiries

•             Provide guidance and training to internal teams on compliance requirements and best practices

•             Coordinate, perform and document Safety Risk Assessments to prevailing safety standards and provide corrective action feedback to design engineers

•             Perform other related tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications

•             Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline

•             5+ years of experience in product compliance, certification, or regulatory engineering

•             Strong working knowledge of North American and international safety standards

•             Experience working directly with certification bodies and test laboratories

•             Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical standards and regulations

•             Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills

•             Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment

•             Self-starter and hands-on approach

•             Proficient in Microsoft Office including: Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word

•             Must be effective communicator as will provide other organizations, i.e. sales personnel with compliance related information

 

Preferred Qualifications

•             Experience with commercial equipment, appliances, or industrial products

•             Familiarity with CE marking, EU directives (LVD, EMC, RoHS), and international market access requirements

•             Experience supporting products through UL or equivalent safety testing

•             Knowledge of quality systems and product lifecycle processes

•             Prior experience in a manufacturing or product development environment

 

Working conditions

This position will be based in an office setting, but at times will require a hands-on approach. Occasional review of products on the production line, and/or time in a lab setting should be expected.

Travel required up to 20%.

Physical requirements

Will be required to lift up to 30lbs occasionally.
