As a Principal FOIA Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the agency’s compliance with federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requirements. Your work will directly impact transparency and information access, supporting mission-critical operations in a dynamic environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Processing and analyzing FOIA requests in accordance with federal regulations
- Reviewing, redacting, and preparing responsive documentation for release
- Coordinating with legal counsel, program offices, and records management stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely responses
- Maintaining compliance with FOIA deadlines and federal records management requirements
- Ensuring proper application of FOIA exemptions and supporting complex request handling
- Contributing to agency records management practices and supporting documentation audits
- Communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders throughout the FOIA process
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5–8 years of federal FOIA experience
- Experience handling complex FOIA requests, including applying exemptions and performing redactions
- Working knowledge of federal records management requirements (e.g., NARA guidance/Federal Records Act)
- Experience coordinating FOIA responses with agency counsel, program offices, and records management personnel
- Ability to acquire a CSOSA clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with FOIA processing and redaction tools (FOIAXpress, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Relativity, eDiscovery platforms, or SharePoint)
- Working knowledge of 5 U.S.C. § 552 (FOIA) and DOJ FOIA guidance
- Experience supporting FOIA operations for CSOSA or similar federal justice/corrections/supervision agency environments
- Experience communicating with external FOIA requesters regarding request processing and responses
