Title: Senior MS SQL DBA – Tolling
Location: Mechanicsville, VA (Remote)

Job Summary

Seeking a Senior Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator to support VDOT’s Tolling Engineering and Operations team. The candidate will manage SQL Server and cloud databases, optimize database performance, maintain high availability, and support database migrations, troubleshooting, and application operations.

Required Skills

• Strong Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience

• SQL Server 2019 or later; SQL Server 2022/2025+

• T-SQL, query optimization, and performance tuning

• SQL Server clustering, mirroring, and high availability

• Database installation, upgrades, patching, and migration

• Large database administration and maintenance

• Windows Server administration and scripting

• Azure and cloud database technologies

• Exposure to SSIS, SSAS, and SSRS

• Data modeling and technical documentation

• Troubleshooting, application support, and incident resolution

• Experience with Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 2 years of Microsoft SQL Server database experience

• At least 1 year of Azure, Snowflake, or Databricks experience, or an accepted relevant certification

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience

• Experience with technical requirements and design documentation

Priority: Candidates with strong hands-on SQL Server DBA expertise, high availability/clustering, performance tuning, and Azure cloud exposure.
