Job Description

Abbott Laboratories seeks an Automation Engineer I to support R&D teams developing innovative healthcare technologies. In this role, you will assist in designing, configuring, and testing laboratory automation systems, including instruments, robotics, and workflows. You will help execute experiments, collect and analyze data, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues. Working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment, you'll document work per quality standards and contribute to continuous improvement while growing skills through mentorship and learning opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, configuration, and testing of R&D automation systems and lab instruments.
  • Develop, execute, and document test protocols, experiments, and validation activities.
  • Troubleshoot automation hardware/software issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers to translate experimental needs into automated workflows.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, SOPs, and change records in compliance with quality standards.
  • Analyze experimental and system performance data to optimize reliability and throughput.
  • Assist in integration of new instruments, robotics, and software into existing platforms.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, regulatory, and quality requirements (GMP/GLP, FDA, ISO).
