Job Description

Data Protection Lawyer

Northern UK Office (Hybrid Working)

Competitive Salary Package & Benefits

Haggerty Jaques is delighted to be instructed to recruit a Data Protection lawyer for this major commercial law firm.

The Team

This is a top-ranking team for advice on data protection and information law relating to commercial organisations as well as organisations within the health sector, both public (NHS) and private healthcare providers, including health tech and life sciences.

The Opportunity

Whilst your role will focus on data protection and information law, you will also advise on general commercial matters.

You will be working at the very forefront of matters affecting the health and commercial sector. It is not unusual for lawyers within the team to be advising on groundbreaking projects that have impact across the healthcare sector as a whole.

You will be joining a friendly and supportive specialist Data Protection team but will also have fantastic exposure to teams across the whole business where they require your expertise.

The types of matters you could expect to be involved with include:

  • clinical research agreements
  • data governance work
  • drafting commercial and licensing arrangements
  • advising on the use of data by health tech innovators
  • international data transfers
  • the handling of subject access requests
  • advising on statutory powers and duties and Freedom of Information Act requests

The team is split across the country, although it is hoped that the successful candidate could be based from a Northern office.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a qualified solicitor with some post-qualified experience of advising on data protection/technology generally (it doesn’t need to be within the health sector or for the public sector).

Alongside some practical experience and genuine interest in the area, the team is also looking for a lawyer who can demonstrate that they enjoy working collaboratively and are motivated by doing a great job for a great client base.

What Else Should You Know?

The firm as a whole is extremely progressive and places great emphasis on staff wellbeing, as reflected in the great range of benefits on offer.

It offers a genuinely open, friendly and respectful environment in which lawyers are given the support and encouragement to do their best.
