Manufacturing Automation Engineer II

Abbott Laboratories seeks a Manufacturing Automation Engineer II to design, implement, and optimize automated systems for biotech and pharmaceutical manufacturing. In this role, you will develop and program PLCs and HMIs, integrate robotics and control systems, and support validation activities to meet GMP and FDA requirements. You will troubleshoot automation issues, analyze production data, and drive process improvements to enhance quality, throughput, and reliability. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you'll support global health-impacting products while growing in a diverse, learning-focused, and mission-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and maintain PLC, HMI, and control systems for biotech manufacturing lines
• Integrate robotics and automation equipment to improve safety, throughput, and consistency
• Support validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) and ensure GMP/FDA compliance for automated systems
• Troubleshoot automation issues and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions
• Analyze production and equipment data to drive process optimization and reliability improvements
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and operations to define and execute automation projects
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and change control records
• Support commissioning, qualification, and startup of new or upgraded automated equipment
• Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance teams on automation systems
• Contribute to continuous improvement, standardization, and digitalization initiatives across the plant
