Job Description

Mission:

To drive Schneider Electric specification growth across the North West and Yorkshire, by influencing consulting engineers, end users, contractors, and key project stakeholders so that Schneider Electric solutions are designed, specified, and retained through procurement and project delivery.

The Specification Engineer is responsible for creating high-quality, technically robust specifications, expanding Schneider Electric's share of wallet across the full portfolio, and positioning Schneider Electric as a trusted technical partner for safe, sustainable, digital, and intelligent electrical infrastructure.

This is a senior, customer-facing technical role that requires the credibility to advise consulting engineers, the commercial awareness to identify and shape opportunities, and the persistence to influence complex projects over extended design and procurement cycles.

Responsibilities:
    • Develop and execute consultant account plans across Premier+, strategic, and priority regional design firms within North West & Yorkshire.
    • Build trusted relationships with consulting engineers, technical directors, design managers, end users, contractors, and other project influencers.
    • Influence project designs from concept and early-stage planning through detailed design, tender, procurement, and delivery to maximise Schneider Electric specification content and retention.
    • Create, develop, and manage a high-quality, full width-of-wallet project pipeline across Schneider Electric products, systems, software, and services.
    • Improve the technical quality, clarity, and defensibility of specifications to increase project conversion and reduce the risk of substitution.
    • Provide pre-sales technical guidance, application support, and solution recommendations across low-voltage power distribution, protection, metering, energy management, digital power, building systems, and associated software solutions.
    • Act as a subject matter expert and primary technical point of contact for assigned consultant accounts and major project opportunities.
    • Support customers with design reviews, system architecture, product selection, standards compliance, specification development, and solution optimisation.
    • Deliver CPD presentations, technical workshops, seminars, product updates, and thought-leadership sessions to varied technical audiences.
    • Collaborate with Key Account Managers, contractor-facing teams, end-user teams, marketing, channel partners, and specialist business units to create coordinated account and project strategies.
    • Maintain visibility of major projects and market activity across the region, identifying opportunities early enough to influence the design.
    • Drive adoption of Schneider Electric digital engineering, specification, sustainability, and software tools where relevant to the customer and project.
    • Represent Schneider Electric at customer events, industry forums, technical institutions, and consultant engagement activities.
    • Manage approximately 25-40 consultant sites and the associated network of contacts, projects, specifications, and follow-up actions across a demanding geographic territory.

Experience & Qualifications
    • Relevant experience within the electrical industry, consulting engineering, building services, specification engineering, technical sales, low-voltage power distribution, switchgear, or a related technical environment.
    • Proven experience working with consulting engineers, contractors, panel builders, system integrators, distributors, end users, or multidisciplinary project teams.
    • Demonstrable experience influencing technical decision-makers and developing opportunities through long and complex project lifecycles.
    • Experience managing a portfolio of strategic customer relationships and multiple concurrent projects across a large, commercially important territory.
    • Chartered status, Incorporated Engineer status, or active membership of a relevant professional institution is advantageous but not essential.
Technical Competencies:
    • Strong practical knowledge of low-voltage electrical distribution, switchgear, protection, power quality, metering, energy management, and related electrical infrastructure.
    • Ability to interpret and challenge single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, load schedules, technical specifications, design documentation, and consultant requirements.
    • Working knowledge of relevant UK electrical and building-services standards, regulations, design principles, and specification practices.
    • Ability to translate complex customer requirements into technically compliant, commercially viable, and clearly articulated solution architectures.
    • Confidence discussing technical risk, system performance, selectivity, resilience, maintainability, sustainability, digital connectivity, and lifecycle considerations with experienced engineers.
    • Understanding of industry drivers including decarbonisation, energy efficiency, electrification, data visibility, cybersecurity, smart buildings, and digitalisation.
    • Ability to write, review, and improve technical specification content that supports design intent and remains robust through tender and procurement.
    • High level of presentation capability, including the ability to deliver accredited CPDs and technical training to knowledgeable engineering audiences.
Skills & Attributes:
    • Combines technical depth with commercial judgement and can convert engineering discussions into valuable, customer-led opportunities.
    • Credible and confident with senior engineers and decision-makers, while able to adapt communication for non-technical stakeholders.
    • Highly self-motivated and comfortable working autonomously in a field-based role with competing priorities and limited day-to-day supervision.
    • Exceptional organisation, follow-through, and attention to detail across accounts, design actions, project data, and stakeholder commitments.
    • Resourceful, resilient, tenacious, and able to influence without direct authority.
    • Collaborative by nature and capable of coordinating multiple internal teams around a shared account or project strategy.
    • Curious and committed to continuous learning as technologies, standards, customer expectations, and market requirements evolve.
Education:
    • A degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent professional experience in electrical engineering, building services engineering, or a closely related discipline is highly desirable.
