Job Description
The Network Cybersecurity Analyst / Information Security Specialist (Lead/Senior) is a hands-on cybersecurity practitioner within the Information Security Services department, reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at a private Historically Black University (HBCU) in Central Florida.
In this role, you will be responsible for stabilizing, modernizing, and securing the institution's technology environment. Operating as a lead independent contributor, you will drive daily SOC operations, implement threat detection tools, execute cloud identity migrations, and enforce change management standards. This position offers direct visibility under executive leadership and strong growth potential into a formal security leadership role as operational benchmarks are met.

Key Responsibilities
- Security Operations & Threat Detection (SOC)
- Stand up and administer daily SOC operations using Wazuh (SIEM), Microsoft Defender (EDR), and ThreatLocker (Application Control).
- Lead alert triage, investigation, containment, and incident response procedures, providing decision-ready briefings to the CIO.
- Tune detection rules, threshold policies, and endpoint agent coverage to eliminate false positives and increase visibility.
- Coordinate rotating on-call coverage for emergency incident response outside standard business hours.
- Cloud Migration & Identity Access Management (IAM)
- Support the migration of on-premises Active Directory to Microsoft Entra ID to resolve identity syncing issues and enable full cloud capability.
- Configure and manage MFA policies across Microsoft Authenticator and Duo Security, alongside QuickLaunch SSO.
- Perform periodic access reviews for privileged accounts and enforce least-privilege standards.
- Infrastructure, Perimeter & Legacy Threat Isolation
- Administer SonicWall firewalls, rule sets, VPN access, and review perimeter security change requests in Freshservice.
- Conduct physical and remote intervention to maintain core switch and network stability across campus facilities.
- Audit and isolate non-standard legacy endpoints (e.g., facility controls or outdated servers running legacy OS) onto segmented networks.
- Support the systematic reduction and decommissioning of legacy server infrastructure.
- Vulnerability & Compliance Management
- Oversee internal vulnerability scanning and monitor external exposure using Shodan.
- Enforce mandatory security review processes for all prospective software and third-party vendor requests prior to implementation.
- Compile compliance evidence and documentation to satisfy National Science Foundation (NSF) grant eligibility requirements as well as GLBA, FERPA, HIPAA, and SACSCOC standards.
- Customer Service & Operational Governance
- Provide proactive customer support, ensuring end-user tickets receive acknowledgment within 24 business hours.
- Draft server hardening standards, baseline policies, and risk register updates for CIO review and approval.

Candidate Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience: 5+ years of progressively responsible cybersecurity experience, with demonstrated capability as a technical lead or senior practitioner.
Technical Mastery:
Hands-on experience with SIEM (Wazuh or equivalent), EDR (Microsoft Defender), Application listing (ThreatLocker), and Firewalls (SonicWall).
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft cloud infrastructure, Entra ID, PowerShell scripting, and SQL.
Methodology: Working knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework and CIS Controls.
Work Location & Flexibility: Ability to work in a hybrid capacity (2-3 days/week on-site) in the Daytona Beach / Central Florida area, with local availability for physical interventions when required.
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications: Security+, CySA+, CISSP, CISM, GIAC (GCIH/GSEC), or SonicWall SNSA.
Experience configuring Microsoft Purview for data loss prevention and risk management.
Prior higher education experience, particularly within an HBCU or mission-driven institutional setting.
