Senior Network Security Engineer II

BizTech Fusion is hiring a Senior Network Security Engineer II for one of our clients.

Note: Candidates must be local to the DMV area. This position follows a hybrid work schedule and requires regular onsite reporting in Washington, DC, based on project needs.

Position Overview

The Senior Network Security Engineer II is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, operation, and security of enterprise network infrastructure and associated security systems. This role focuses on maintaining network performance, strengthening security controls, ensuring system reliability, and supporting both production and disaster recovery environments.

Key Responsibilities

Network Operations & Performance

• Monitor and analyze network traffic patterns across the enterprise infrastructure.
• Identify network issues and recommend improvements to optimize performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network degradation issues.
• Ensure network reliability, availability, and operational stability.
• Monitor trends in incidents and implement preventive measures to reduce future occurrences.

Network Security

• Monitor and maintain security controls across the network perimeter.
• Protect network resources from unauthorized access and security breaches.
• Stay current on emerging security threats, malware, and vulnerabilities, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
• Configure, operate, and maintain network security monitoring and logging solutions.
• Perform forensic investigations and packet analysis when required.

Network Infrastructure Management

• Configure and maintain:
  • Routers
  • Switches
  • Firewalls
  • Network security appliances
• Ensure all network devices comply with organizational security standards.
• Perform routing and network configuration management activities.
• Manage production and disaster recovery network environments.

Technical Support & Incident Resolution

• Proactively manage and resolve complex technical issues escalated to the network engineering team.
• Respond to incidents with a strong sense of urgency and professionalism.
• Coordinate with internal teams to identify and implement effective solutions.
• Escalate critical issues that may impact service delivery or business operations.
• Communicate resolution status and outcomes to stakeholders and end users.

Network Architecture & Design

• Provide network design and architecture support.
• Coordinate with infrastructure teams to define the scope, timing, and technical approach for network changes.
• Ensure all network modifications align with established policies, standards, and procedures.
• Support large-scale, multi-site network environments and infrastructure initiatives.

Required Qualifications

• Experience building and supporting large-scale, multi-site network architectures.
• Experience with secure remote access and WAN technologies, including:
  • IPsec
  • VPNs
• Knowledge of network-based and system-level attacks and mitigation techniques.
• Experience managing and supporting enterprise network security solutions.
• Strong understanding of network architecture, topology, and infrastructure design.
• Experience with network standards, protocols, and operational procedures.
• Experience with routing configuration management and network administration.
• Experience performing end-to-end network performance monitoring and systems management.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 4 years of experience in:
  • Development, configuration, installation, and maintenance of networked systems, including LAN, WAN, and telephony environments.
  • Network standards, protocols, and procedures.
  • Network architecture and topology.
  • Routing and network configuration management.
  • Network systems management and performance monitoring.

Preferred Certifications

One or more of the following certifications is highly desired:

• CCNA
• CCNP
• CCIE
• CISSP
• MCSE
• MCSA

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position that requires regular onsite attendance based on project requirements. Candidates must be willing to report onsite in Washington, DC as needed.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in network security engineering, Cisco security technologies, firewall administration, network monitoring, routing and switching, VPN/IPsec technologies, incident response, and enterprise network infrastructure management, with the ability to support both operational and security-focused initiatives in a complex network environment.
