The Full-Stack Software Engineer Automotive Manufacturing designs, develops, integrates, and supports software solutions that connect automotive manufacturing operations with cloud and enterprise systems.
The role spans the full software stack from shop-floor edge applications and industrial data collection to cloud services, backend systems, APIs, databases, and front-end user experiences.
The ideal candidate combines strong full-stack development skills with practical experience in automotive manufacturing, industrial systems, and connected factory environments. They understand the unique requirements of manufacturing software, including real-time data, equipment connectivity, reliability, cybersecurity, scalability, and operation in environments where cloud and edge computing must work together.
Experience & Qualifications
- Significant software-development experience in automotive manufacturing, industrial automation, or discrete manufacturing.
- Strong experience developing both front-end and backend applications.
- Experience developing software across cloud and edge environments.
- Experience integrating software with manufacturing systems and/or industrial equipment.
- Strong understanding of software architecture and distributed systems.
- Experience working with APIs, databases, messaging, and data integration.
- Experience with modern DevOps and CI/CD practices.
- Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration.
- Understanding of manufacturing operations and shop-floor technology.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with software developers, architects, manufacturing engineers, plant personnel, IT/OT teams, and business stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with MES/MOM platforms.
- Experience with OPC UA, MQTT, Sparkplug, or other industrial communication technologies.
- Experience with industrial IoT and connected-factory architectures.
- Experience with Azure IoT or equivalent cloud/edge technologies.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming platforms.
- Experience with digital manufacturing and Industry 4.0 initiatives.
- Experience developing applications for multi-plant or enterprise manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of manufacturing standards and information models.
- Experience with observability and distributed-system monitoring.
- Experience working in regulated or high-availability manufacturing environments.
Deliverables:
Full-Stack Software Development Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain full-stack software applications supporting manufacturing operations. Develop both front-end and back-end components using modern software development practices. Build responsive and intuitive user interfaces for manufacturing operators, engineers, supervisors, and business users. Develop scalable backend services, APIs, business logic, and data-access layers. Design applications that provide real-time or near-real-time visibility into manufacturing operations. Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through deployment and ongoing support. Cloud Software Development Work with cloud services for application hosting, data storage, messaging, monitoring, security, and analytics. Design scalable cloud architectures capable of supporting multiple plants, production lines, and manufacturing applications. Support deployment and management of applications using modern CI/CD and DevOps practices. Edge & Industrial Software Development Develop software that operates at the manufacturing edge, including applications deployed on plant-floor computers, industrial PCs, gateways, and edge devices. Develop edge services for collecting, processing, transforming, buffering, and distributing manufacturing data. Interface with industrial equipment, machines, sensors, controllers, and manufacturing systems. Develop software capable of supporting real-time and near-real-time manufacturing use cases. Backend Development Develop RESTful APIs, services, microservices, and integration interfaces. Design business logic and service architectures supporting manufacturing applications. Develop data-access layers and database integrations. Work with relational and non-relational databases. Implement authentication, authorization, logging, error handling, and application monitoring. Develop event-driven and asynchronous processing capabilities where appropriate. Integrate manufacturing applications with enterprise and operational systems. Front-End Development Develop modern web-based applications and user interfaces. Consume APIs and real-time data services to provide current operational information. Automotive Manufacturing Systems Integration Integrate applications with manufacturing systems including MES/MOM, ERP, PLM, QMS, WMS, SCADA, historians, and equipment systems. Understand manufacturing concepts such as production orders, operations, work centres, equipment, materials, genealogy, traceability, quality events, downtime, cycle time, and production status. Participate in Gemba activities and work directly with manufacturing personnel to understand operational requirements. DevOps & Deployment Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for cloud and edge applications. Automate application builds, testing, packaging, deployment, and configuration. Use container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes where appropriate. Data & Integration Work with manufacturing, operational, and enterprise data across multiple systems. Develop data ingestion, transformation, and integration services. Work with APIs, message brokers, event streams, and industrial data interfaces. Support integration with databases, data platforms, and analytics environments. Cybersecurity & Reliability Develop applications following secure software-development practices. Apply authentication, authorization, encryption, and secure communication mechanisms. Work with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams to ensure applications meet organizational and plant-floor requirements.
