Job Description

Position Title: Infrastructure Engineering Senior Engineer -331107

Location: Dearborn, MI (Remote)

Duration: 12 Months

Position Summary

As an Infrastructure Engineering Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, customizing, and maintaining core IT mainframe infrastructure and specialized enterprise systems (such as IBM/LPARs, hybrid, and cloud systems). You will oversee system programming, disaster recovery planning, independent software vendor (ISV) integrations, and capacity optimization to support critical internal customer workloads.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Design & Maintenance: Design, configure, and maintain enterprise server infrastructure specifically mainframe systems (IBM/LPARs, z/OS) and virtualized environments aligned with architecture blueprints.
  • Software & Exit Customization: Install, customize, test, implement, and support ISV products (e.g., Broadcom/CA Technologies, BMC, SAS, IBM). Code in Assembler, REXX, CLIST, or SAS to develop, test, and document system modifications, MVS, and JES exits.
  • Monitoring & Diagnostics: Utilize and configure monitoring tools (e.g., Omegamon) to analyze dumps, debug z/OS software/hardware problems, and resolve bottleneck or performance issues.
  • Environment Support: Support z/OS Unix System Services (USS) and WebSphere environments. Interface with vendor technical support (such as IBM's ServiceLink) for problem resolution.
  • Security & Access Management: Apply RACF security policies, creating and analyzing security profiles to ensure alignment with corporate compliance standards.
  • Capacity Planning & Optimization: Review CPU, memory, storage (SAN, HDFS, SSD), and network utilization parameters to ensure optimal performance and mitigate cost overruns.
  • Operations & On-Call Support: Participate in a 24/7/365 rotational on-call schedule for level 1 3 production support, off-hours disaster recovery planning/testing, and mainframe hardware configuration upgrades.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • IT Experience: 10+ years of general IT experience; 8+ years focused on development/systems programming.
  • Mainframe & Systems Expertise: Hands-on experience with Mainframe Systems, z/OS internals (JES2 or JES3 environments), SMP/E, SMF, USS, Omegamon, and MVS/JES exits.
  • Programming Proficiency: Practical proficiency in at least two coding languages or advanced proficiency in one (Assembler, REXX, CLIST, JCL, or SAS highly preferred).
  • Tools & Utilities: Strong working knowledge of ISPF, TSO, JCL, IBM utilities, and standard administrative tools (Microsoft Office Suite, Project).
  • Soft Skills & Flexibility: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and verbal/written communication skills. Willingness and ability to work overtime, including shifts, weekends, and holidays as required by operational schedules.
