The RoleReady to help shape the future of transport infrastructure across New South Wales? SMEC is seeking an Engineer - Roads & Highways (Utilities) to join our Sydney team. In this role, you'll contribute to the planning, design and delivery of major transport infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on utility coordination, service investigations and integrated corridor design outcomes. Working alongside experienced technical specialists and project leaders, you'll apply your engineering expertise to deliver solutions that balance road design requirements with existing and proposed utility infrastructure. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with up to three years of experience looking to further develop their technical capabilities in roads, utilities and multidisciplinary transport projects within a leading consultancy.
Responsibilities- Deliver high-quality roads and highways design outcomes in accordance with relevant Australian Standards, client requirements and SMEC quality systems.
- Undertake utility investigations, assessments and coordination activities across a range of transport infrastructure projects.
- Develop and review road and utility designs using 12d Model and other relevant design software.
- Apply an understanding of utility authority requirements, standards, specifications and approval processes to support project delivery.
- Identify, assess and manage utility conflicts, relocations and service impacts during project planning and design phases.
- Prepare technical reports, design documentation, specifications and project deliverables.
- Coordinate with utility providers, clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary project teams to ensure integrated design outcomes.
- Support project planning, programme management and risk identification activities.
- Contribute to Safety in Design outcomes and proactively identify project risks and opportunities.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with clients and stakeholders while delivering high-quality technical solutions.
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- 2 to 5 years of experience in roads and highways engineering design
- An understanding of relevant Australian Standards, Austroads guidelines, utility authority requirements and standards and industry specifications
- Experience preparing technical documentation, reports and design deliverables (12d modelling experience highly valued)
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly
- A proactive, client-focused approach and strong attention to detail
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across multiple projects
- Experience using relevant engineering design software and business systems
- An understanding of project delivery, WHS requirements and risk management principles
- A commitment to safety in design and continuous professional development
