Quick Overview
Job Description
• An excellent opportunity for a senior qualified actuary to join a global life reinsurer in a broad leadership role spanning valuation, retirement business, new transactions and actuarial transformation.
You’ll lead teams responsible for the valuation of a growing retirement portfolio and consolidated actuarial reporting, with accountability for the delivery of accurate quarterly and ad hoc results. The role sits at the heart of the valuation function and works closely with Finance, Pricing, Operations and other actuarial teams.
A particularly attractive aspect of the position is the exposure to new and increasingly complex retirement transactions. You’ll act as a key valuation stakeholder on new business, helping assess deal structures, understand the modelling and reporting implications, and ensure the right processes, controls and operational framework are in place as transactions move into the in-force portfolio.
The technical breadth is also strong, with exposure across IFRS 17, US GAAP, economic capital and Bermuda reporting, alongside stress testing, scenario analysis and in-force management. The role also has increasing responsibility for asset modelling, giving broader exposure across both sides of the balance sheet.
Alongside the day-to-day leadership responsibilities, you’ll play an important role in a wider transformation programme focused on improving actuarial systems, automation, controls and reporting processes, helping shape how the valuation function develops as the business continues to grow.
Key experience:
• Qualified actuary with ideally 5+ years’ post-qualified experience in life insurance or reinsurance
• Strong valuation and financial reporting background
• Experience across annuities, BPA / pension risk transfer, longevity or broader retirement business
• Good understanding of the interaction between assets, liabilities and capital
• Exposure to IFRS 17 and/or US GAAP and relevant regulatory capital frameworks
• Experience supporting new business transactions and implementing them into valuation and reporting processes
• Strong people-management experience, with a track record of developing actuarial teams
• Experience improving processes, controls, models or actuarial systems
This would particularly suit someone who has built a strong technical grounding in valuation but now wants broader leadership responsibility, greater transaction exposure and a more strategic role in shaping a growing retirement business.
