Maritime Robotics Systems Engineer | Laurel, MD, United States | Hybrid | $100,000 - $245,000 Annually

The Role

  • Lead the systems engineering efforts for developing new maritime robotics systems with advanced software and sensing capabilities, including defining design reference missions, requirements, and performance metrics.
  • Apply systems engineering best practices, including Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering, to the development and transition of autonomy and uncrewed vehicle technologies.
  • Mentor and lead multidisciplinary technical teams in conducting design trade studies, requirements analysis, mission modeling, and prototyping for maritime uncrewed systems.
  • Oversee the end-to-end process of designing, integrating, and testing autonomous and remotely operated maritime vehicles and their control software.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance on maritime robotics best practices and emerging trends to project teams and sponsors.
  • Collaborate directly with US Navy stakeholders and industry partners to ensure successful project outcomes and modernization of acquisition approaches.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant Systems Engineering experience, preferably with US Navy or DOD platforms.
  • Proven experience in developing and integrating uncrewed vehicles, autonomy software, or maritime systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead technical engineering teams through the system lifecycle: studies, requirements, design, prototyping, integration, and testing.
  • Experience working within a US Navy or other government sponsor's DOD research and development and/or acquisition environment.
  • Strong organizational, planning, interpersonal, and communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately a Secret level clearance.
