Lead Reliability Test & Automation Architect

Location: Irvine, CA Onsite
Job Type: Contract

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead Reliability Test & Automation Architect to serve as the technical lead and primary customer-facing interface for reliability test and automation initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in reliability engineering, automated test systems, test architecture, instrumentation, data acquisition, test fixtures, and embedded interfaces, along with excellent customer-facing and technical leadership skills.

This position will work closely with customer stakeholders and offshore engineering teams to define technical solutions, evaluate alternatives, develop implementation plans, and drive technical deliverables to completion.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as the primary technical interface between customer stakeholders and offshore engineering teams.
Lead technical discussions, workshops, reviews, and stakeholder communications.
Work with Product, Systems, Reliability, Test, Quality, Laboratory, Manufacturing, Service, IT, and Procurement teams.
Gather and clarify product architecture, test objectives, operating profiles, interfaces, standards, constraints, and approval requirements.
Maintain requirements, assumptions, risks, dependencies, decisions, and action items.
Define high-level test fixture and test automation architectures.
Develop solutions covering DUT, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, DAQ, firmware, software, data, safety, and infrastructure interfaces.
Break down technical requirements and coordinate activities across Mechanical, Electrical, Firmware/Automation, and Reliability SMEs.
Conduct technical reviews and consolidate offshore engineering inputs.
Evaluate reuse, modification, and new-development options and support customer decision-making.
Lead development of WBS, resource plans, schedules, ROM estimates, risks, assumptions, and implementation roadmaps.
Present technical recommendations, incorporate stakeholder feedback, and drive closure of deliverables.

Required Qualifications

12+ years of engineering experience.
Strong Reliability Engineering experience.
Proven experience with test systems and test automation architecture.
Strong customer-facing technical leadership experience.
Experience with mechanical fixtures, electrical instrumentation, DAQ/data acquisition, automation, and embedded interfaces.
Experience with requirements management, interface definition, trade-off analysis, risk management, and technical documentation.
Ability to coordinate distributed/offshore engineering teams.
Excellent communication, presentation, workshop facilitation, and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in medical devices or other regulated products.
Experience with LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, C/C++, or similar test automation technologies.
Experience with reliability qualification, environmental testing, validation, or product qualification.
Experience working with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing organizations.
