Job Description
We are seeking a strong Microsoft Purview professional with extensive Data Governance experience to lead and support enterprise-wide data governance initiatives. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, data cataloging, data discovery, data classification, data lineage, data quality, and governance frameworks.
This is a Lead-level role, requiring someone who can work independently, lead data governance initiatives, collaborate with business and technical stakeholders, and provide strategic direction for Microsoft Purview implementation and adoption.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, implementation, and administration of Microsoft Purview across enterprise data environments.
  • Develop and implement enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Configure and manage Microsoft Purview capabilities including:
    • Data Catalog
    • Data Discovery
    • Data Classification
    • Data Lineage
    • Business Glossary
    • Data Assets and Collections
    • Data Governance and stewardship
  • Establish data ownership, stewardship, classification, and governance processes.
  • Define and maintain data domains, critical data elements, business terms, and data policies.
  • Develop and maintain end-to-end data lineage across enterprise data sources and platforms.
  • Integrate Microsoft Purview with Azure and other enterprise data platforms.
  • Work with Data Architects, Data Engineers, Security teams, Business Analysts, and Data Stewards to establish governance standards.
  • Identify gaps in existing data governance processes and recommend improvements.
  • Support data discovery, metadata management, data classification, and compliance initiatives.
  • Establish processes for data quality, data ownership, access governance, and metadata management.
  • Lead workshops with business and technical stakeholders to gather governance requirements.
  • Create governance documentation, standards, operating procedures, and implementation roadmaps.
  • Provide technical and functional guidance to project teams implementing Microsoft Purview.
  • Monitor adoption and continuously improve enterprise data governance practices.
Required Skills
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview.
  • Strong background in Enterprise Data Governance.
  • Experience with Data Catalog, Metadata Management, Data Classification, Data Lineage, and Business Glossary.
  • Experience defining and implementing Data Governance frameworks and operating models.
  • Experience working with Data Stewards, Data Owners, Data Custodians, and business stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of Azure data services and cloud data platforms.
  • Experience with Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, or similar Azure data services.
  • Knowledge of data security, privacy, compliance, and access governance.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead data governance workshops and drive decisions.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Microsoft Purview implementation/migration experience.
  • Experience establishing enterprise-wide data governance operating models.
  • Experience with DAMA-DMBOK or similar data governance frameworks.
  • Experience with data quality and master data management.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, or SOX.
  • Experience with Power BI and enterprise analytics environments.
  • Experience integrating Purview with multi-cloud or hybrid data environments.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications are a plus.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a hands-on Microsoft Purview Lead, not just a general Data Governance consultant. The candidate should be able to demonstrate actual experience implementing and managing Purview capabilities while also leading enterprise Data Governance initiatives.
