Job Description

Cloud Azure/Google Cloud Platform Infrastructure Consultant
Location:  Tulsa, OK (onsite/hybrid)
Type:  Consultant/Contractor

Duration: Contract minimum of 6 months with potential for extension to full time hire

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Cloud Azure/Google Cloud Platform Infrastructure Consultant to provide technical leadership for the design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of enterprise cloud environments. This individual will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for cloud architecture, infrastructure automation, platform governance, system resilience, and operational performance across Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (Google Cloud Platform), and hybrid infrastructure environments.

The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on engineering expertise with the ability to establish technical standards, guide complex infrastructure initiatives, and resolve high-impact technical challenges. Working across infrastructure, application development, cybersecurity, data, and business operations, this professional will develop secure, scalable, cost-effective cloud solutions that support mission-critical systems, real-time data exchange, global connectivity, and uninterrupted business operations.

This is an individual-contributor leadership position that influences technical direction across internal engineering teams, external service providers, and technology partners without direct personnel management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Architecture & Platform Engineering

  • Provide enterprise-level technical leadership for cloud infrastructure architecture, engineering practices, and hybrid platform strategy across Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and supporting infrastructure technologies.

  • Develop and maintain architectural blueprints, cloud deployment standards, landing zones, governance controls, network connectivity models, identity requirements, monitoring frameworks, resource-tagging conventions, and operational acceptance criteria.

  • Design and oversee secure, highly available, scalable, and recoverable cloud environments supporting critical applications, operational technology integrations, analytics, automation, and geographically distributed business functions.

  • Evaluate architectural options and emerging cloud capabilities to improve platform performance, maintainability, security, and alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Partner with application, infrastructure, data, and business stakeholders to convert technical and operational requirements into practical cloud solutions.

Infrastructure Automation & Modernization

  • Establish and advance Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated deployment practices to improve consistency, repeatability, and delivery efficiency.

  • Develop and maintain automated infrastructure solutions using Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, PowerShell, Python, YAML, JSON, GitHub, Azure DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Lead and support cloud migration, infrastructure modernization, hybrid integration, cloud-native adoption, and platform improvement initiatives.

  • Incorporate automated testing, configuration management, version control, and deployment validation into infrastructure engineering workflows.

  • Identify opportunities to eliminate manual processes, simplify operations, and improve infrastructure provisioning and lifecycle management.

Reliability, Resilience & Operations

  • Engineer cloud platforms for high availability, disaster recovery, backup integrity, business continuity, and rapid service restoration.

  • Establish and improve monitoring, logging, alerting, observability, capacity planning, performance optimization, and operational support procedures.

  • Lead technical investigation and resolution of high-severity production incidents, including Priority 1 and Priority 2 events, with an emphasis on minimizing business disruption.

  • Conduct root cause analysis, identify recurring failure patterns, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and prevent future incidents.

  • Maintain operational runbooks, recovery procedures, support documentation, and service-readiness standards.

  • Provide technical guidance on change management, implementation sequencing, testing, rollback planning, validation, and post-deployment reviews.

Security, Governance & Risk Management

  • Collaborate with cybersecurity and governance teams to implement secure cloud architecture and maintain appropriate controls across enterprise environments.

  • Apply best practices for identity and access management, least-privilege access, privileged account protection, secrets management, encryption, network segmentation, vulnerability remediation, and centralized logging.

  • Support policy-driven governance, audit preparation, risk mitigation, and compliance requirements through standardized architecture and repeatable engineering practices.

  • Ensure cloud infrastructure changes meet established security, documentation, testing, and operational quality expectations.

  • Identify architectural vulnerabilities, technical debt, and reliability risks, and recommend remediation strategies based on business impact and risk exposure.

Technical Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as a technical advisor to engineers, infrastructure specialists, contractors, managed-service providers, and technology vendors.

  • Conduct architecture reviews, evaluate implementation approaches, establish engineering standards, and provide technical coaching and knowledge transfer.

  • Communicate complex infrastructure issues, service interruptions, capacity limitations, and technology risks in terms that are clear to technical teams and business leadership.

  • Coordinate with stakeholders across infrastructure, application engineering, cybersecurity, data, and business operations to ensure cloud services meet operational requirements.

  • Maintain architecture diagrams, technical decision records, configuration standards, knowledge articles, and engineering documentation.

  • Drive continuous improvement through reliability engineering, automation, operational dashboards, AI-assisted monitoring and analysis, and lessons learned from incidents and project delivery.

Cloud Financial Management

  • Support cloud cost governance and FinOps initiatives by reviewing resource consumption, identifying underutilized services, and recommending rightsizing opportunities.

  • Improve cost visibility through resource-tagging standards, consumption reporting, capacity optimization, and infrastructure lifecycle management.

  • Evaluate cloud service agreements, licensing, vendor offerings, and infrastructure investments to maximize value while maintaining required performance, security, and availability.

Required Technical Expertise

  • Microsoft Azure: Extensive knowledge of Azure compute, networking, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Policy, Azure Backup, Azure Site Recovery, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and enterprise cloud governance.

  • Google Cloud Platform: Strong working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, networking, identity services, monitoring, logging, security controls, and hybrid connectivity.

  • Hybrid Infrastructure: Experience with cloud-to-datacenter integration, DNS, routing, firewalls, load balancing, F5 technologies, VPNs, private connectivity, identity federation or integration, virtualization, Nutanix, and traditional datacenter infrastructure.

  • Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on proficiency with Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, GitHub, Azure DevOps, PowerShell, Python, YAML, JSON, automated testing, and CI/CD-based deployments.

  • Cloud Security: Knowledge of least-privilege access, privileged identity management, encryption, secrets protection, vulnerability management, policy as code, security monitoring, and secure architecture principles.

  • Resilience Engineering: Ability to design and support highly available systems, disaster recovery strategies, backup and restoration processes, failure-mode analysis, monitoring, and documented recovery procedures.

  • IT Operations: Familiarity with incident response, change control, problem management, service ownership, operational readiness, technical documentation, and enterprise service management practices.

  • Technical Leadership: Proven ability to drive engineering decisions, coordinate technical delivery, and influence teams and service providers without direct managerial authority.

  • Business Alignment: Ability to evaluate technical decisions through the lens of operational continuity, business risk, cybersecurity, cost efficiency, reliability, and long-term platform value.
