Job Description

Alation Automation Engineer

  • We're looking for an experienced Alation architect to own our data catalog platform end-to-end — from infrastructure and connectivity to governance and adoption.

What You'll Do

  • Architect Alation deployment (cloud/on-prem, HA/DR, upgrades) and govern metadata ingestion (MDE, QLI, profiling)
  • Build connectors (OCF, Alation Agent, custom API) and end-to-end lineage, including custom lineage via API
  • Design the catalog model (glossary, templates, hierarchies) and Governance App/Policy Center setup
  • Implement SSO/SAML, SCIM/LDAP, RBAC, and secure data source authentication
  • Integrate with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, dbt, Tableau/Power BI via REST APIs
  • Set platform standards, monitor health/adoption, and guide governance strategy

What You Bring

  • 8+ years in data platform/architecture, 3+ years hands-on with Alation
  • Deep knowledge of OCF, MDE/QLI, lineage, REST API/SDK
  • Strong SQL + one major cloud platform (Snowflake/Databricks/BigQuery/Redshift)
  • Python for automation and custom connectors
  • Familiarity with DAMA/DMBOK and privacy regs (GDPR/CCPA/HIPAA)

Nice to Have

  • Alation certification, cloud migration experience, Terraform/Kubernetes/CI/CD, or exposure to Collibra/Purview
