Private Business Tax Manager - Morgan McKinley

A leading Big 4 professional services firm is looking to appoint a Tax Manager to join its growing Private Business team in Manchester.
Working with entrepreneurs, privately owned groups, family businesses and private equity-backed organisations, you'll provide commercially focused tax advice across the full business lifecycle, from growth and expansion through to restructuring, transactions and succession planning. This is an excellent opportunity for a Corporate Tax or Private Business tax professional looking to broaden their advisory experience, build strong client relationships and develop their career within a highly regarded national team.
The Opportunity
As a Tax Manager within the Private Business team, you'll manage a diverse portfolio of clients, acting as a trusted adviser on a broad range of corporate and shareholder tax matters. You'll work closely with Partners, Directors and specialists across Tax, Deals and wider advisory teams to deliver practical solutions that support clients' commercial objectives. The role offers a varied mix of advisory work, client interaction and team leadership, with the opportunity to work closely with ambitious business owners and senior stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of privately owned businesses, entrepreneurs and private equity-backed clients.
• Build trusted relationships with business owners and senior stakeholders, acting as a key point of contact on tax matters.
• Provide advice across corporate tax, shareholder taxation, business structures and strategic tax planning.
• Support clients through business growth, restructures, transactions and other significant commercial events.
• Identify opportunities to add value through proactive tax advice and wider advisory services.
• Work collaboratively with specialists across Corporate Tax, Deals, Legal and other advisory teams.
• Oversee the delivery of tax compliance work while identifying opportunities to develop the advisory relationship.
• Manage projects, budgets and deadlines to ensure high-quality client service.
• Review technical work and coach junior team members, supporting their development.
• Contribute to the continued growth of the Private Business team through client development and relationship building.

You'll ideally have:

• ACA, CTA or an equivalent professional qualification.
• Strong UK tax experience gained within a professional services environment.
• Experience advising privately owned, owner-managed or mid-market businesses.
• Strong technical knowledge combined with a commercial approach to client service.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with confidence engaging business owners and senior stakeholders.
• The ability to manage multiple client engagements and competing priorities.
• Experience reviewing work and developing junior colleagues.
• A proactive approach with a genuine interest in advisory-led tax work.
